Russia ups their anti-satellite game

Thanks to the KoB for sending in this update on Russia’s offensive capabilities.

Russia test-fired an anti-satellite missile in its pursuit to turn space into a “warfighting domain,” the U.S. Space Command announced Wednesday.

The direct-ascent, anti-satellite missile test took place Tuesday, an official at U.S. Space Command told Fox News. To date, Russia has demonstrated two types of space weapons, the agency says.

“Russia has made space a warfighting domain by testing space-based and ground-based weapons intended to target and destroy satellites,” U.S. Army Gen. James Dickinson — the leader of the Space Command — said in a statement. “This fact is inconsistent with Moscow’s public claims that Russia seeks to prevent conflict in space.”

Dickinson added that Moscow is looking to “exploit U.S. reliance on space-based systems.”

“We stand ready and committed to deter aggression and defend our Nation and our allies from hostile acts in space,” he continued.

The U.S. Space Command says Russia has completed several tests of a ground-based weapon system “capable of destroying satellites in low Earth orbit.”

“If this weapon is tested on an actual satellite or used operationally, it will cause a large debris field that could endanger commercial satellites and irrevocably pollute the space domain,” it warned.

The other weapon system Russia has demonstrated – once in 2017 and again this year — is space-based, according to the U.S. Space Command.

LTV (Ling-Temco-Vought) developed and tested an anti-satellite missile in the early 80s (and it worked). It wasn’t pursued because of the whole militarizing space issue that people have. Seems like it’s about time to start producing those again. LMT is a Lockheed Martin legacy company so the plans have to be in some vault somewhere.

Other thought – Star Wars. How good at labeling things are libs at? The Dems labeled SDI as “Star Wars” to trivialize the effort in the American mind. 30 years later it we’re still stuck with that (even when talking about the Ruskies).

When will people realize that the intent of the foreign and domestic enemies of this country is to drive the heel of the despot into the soft underbelly of the defenseless? Y’all better brush up on some map reading and cross country skilz, cause the GPS birds will probably be the FIRST to be taken out. Then the KH birds. So much for all of the treaties that forbid the weaponization of space. How’s that working out for us.

Instead of spending money to fight one another on Earth from Space, maybe they should be figuring out a way to clean up all the Space Junk they have floating around. Or how to fight off the Klingons…or Marvin.

Damn shame that the Nation and the people that have done more to advance the quality of life and keep the world free of oppression is hated by others. The Russians forget that if it hadn’t been for us, they would most likely be speaking German right now. And the Chinese Communists would be speaking Japanese.

U.S F15 shoots down satellite in 1985, I bet we got a lot better in 35 years.

Cool. That’s the missile I mentioned in my post – hadn’t seen the footage. That’s pretty awesome. There’s great still photos in the wikipedia page.

Check this story about the actual F-15 involved. The son of the General that launched the missile in question flew his dad’s plane in 2007.

Jesus, is it that hard for you guys and the puzzle guys to figure out?
We just update our anti-anti-anti-anti-satellite technology.
*rolls eyes*.
Trump it.
Keep like 14 steps ahead and use that frecking treaty provided/reverse engineered alien technology we have. God!!

We can easily shut down any satellite without turning it into space litter.
From the ground. On a cloudy day. Any day of the week.
So can Russia, China, Israel and a probably a few Ham radio operators.
