Deception is the name of the game
I caught this article recently in the print version of Popular Mechanics and thought it worth sharing, despite many of you likely already being aware of this.
During WWII, among the many camouflage, concealment, and deception programs undertaken by the Allies (most famously there was Patton’s cardboard Army just before D-Day), was one that hid the enormous and critical airplane factories on America’s west coast.

How to not be seen,, by Monty Python..

Amazing how they made the plant just bled in to the surrounding neighborhoods.
Maybe they need to do that more often now!
Knowed about this from back yonder. Woulda been a kool article, but like SGT Schultz, I see nothing. Pop Mech doesn’t want us to see it either, not without a ‘scrip.
Try right clicking the link and opening in an incognito window.
My computer says I need to subscribe to Popular Mechanics to read the article. Anybody else having the same deal?
Yepper, see my comment above Sgt Schultz. No go at my station. What part of it is not blocked by the buy here/pay here bar is as fuzzy as a fresh picked Georgia Peach.
Worked for me using Firefox “open in private window” but not in Chrome.
Then there was the roof sign Jack Warner had painted on one of his studios that correctly said “Lockheed Thataway” with an arrow.
Nice photo of the carpenter trying to explain to the homeowner
that the facia board is too big and she should install gutters.
When that camo effort was going on, both sides were enthusiasticly bombing neighborhoods to kill war workers. Not as effective as intended.
My dad bombed the shit out of railroad yards, churches, bridges, churches,
schools, factories, houses and some churches.
Probably bombed a lot of camoflage as well.
here’s a link to a similar article, no scrip necessary. https://interestingengineering.com/operation-camouflage-hiding-aircraft-plant-under-fake-subdivision
right clicking and opening in an incognito window didn’t work for me either
Tanks OAM, can always count on Tech Savvy Little Sister to bail out the old dummy. Thought maybe I was doing sumtingwong. I sometimes feel I am only good for serving as a bad example. But I am DAMN GOOD at that.
Used to find it almost comical back in the early ’70s when we would try to camo up the Missile Launchers (Sergeant/Lance Systems). An exercise in futility. Ivan not only knew where we were, so did HIS missiles and MIG 23s. If we waited til the balloon went up to try and shoot & scoot, we would already be dead.
Yeah, I thought that back when I was in the FRG. I figured that, by the time we got out of the casernes and into the field, we’d be part of mushroom clouds.
I always questioned camouflaging a TROPO radio rig. It’s radiating 2kW RF x2 antennas. You can’t hide that. It’s a tasty snack for an anti-radiation middle.

Mr Mattis, did you “forget” to mention it somewhere? Does that “fidelis” thing ring a bit hollow?
It would appear that The Cohen Group has bunches of folks who are Chinese, worked for Chinese companies, or the government and obtained at least some of their education in China. I’m sure that none of that influences their work at all.
Interesting line-up of folks. http://www.cohengroup.net/who-we-are/team
“Deception is the Name of the Game”.
It is my understanding that these words are posted outside of the entrance to the All-Points Logistics Hall of Heroes.
