Straight out of the X-Files

| November 25, 2020

I had to double and triple check that this wasn’t a satire article. It doesn’t get much creepier than this.

Utah State Troopers flying in the remote wilderness helping state conservation authorities take an annual census of wild sheep came across this silver metal obelisk standing 10 feet tall in the middle of nowhere.

State officials were flying over southeastern Utah looking for sheep as part of a routine task. Instead they found something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

From a helicopter, officers from the Utah Department of Public Safety spotted a large metal monolith — a single block of metal — last week. It was sitting in Utah’s Red Rock Country in the southeast. Officials have no idea how or when it got there — or who might have placed it.

“That’s been about the strangest thing that I’ve come across out there in all my years of flying,” helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings told KSL TV.

Hutchings said the structure appeared to be 10 to 12 feet tall and looked like it was planted there — not dropped from the air. In any case, officials said it isn’t legal.

“It is illegal to install structures or art without authorization on federally managed public lands,” said the Utah Department of Public Safety in a statement, “no matter what planet you’re from.”

It also referenced the structure’s out-of-this-world appearance on social media.

“We came across this, in the middle of nowhere, buried deep in the rock. Inquiring minds want to know, what the heck is it? Anyone?” wrote the department in an Instagram post.

As for would-be visitors, officials decided not to disclose the exact location of the monolith. It’s in a remote area — and if people attempt to visit it, “there is a significant possibility they may become stranded and require rescue,” the department said in its statement.

Utah’s Bureau of Land Management is assessing whether further investigation is necessary.

Hutchings has his own theory.

In the classic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey, a group of prehistoric ape-men was baffled by a large black monolith that appeared in an African desert.

“I’m assuming it’s some new-wave artist or something,” Hutchings said, according to KSL TV. “Somebody that was a big fan [of the film].”

Where’s Keir Dullea when you need him?

Still acting, apparently.

I found a piece of metal sticking out of the ground on my property many years ago.
Told Stephen King about it during one of our Sunday morning Harley rides at Dysarts
Truck Stop in Hermon. Guy went on to write a novel about it and never mentioned me.
Asshole.

I get a gigglesnort out of this every time I read it.

And the “authoritah’s response: “It is illegal to install structures or art without authorization on federally managed public lands,” said the Utah Department of Public Safety”…..
Suuuuuure. As if the person who planted it there would ever listen to or obey YOU, pea brain.

And it does appear to be carefully “planted” into the soil/rock/ground. Not just hastily placed, or the rangers who found it would have been able to push it over. And from the picture, the soil doesn’t appear to have been hastily dug up and disturbed. This adds to the mystery and mystique.

FINALLY! Something FUN down in SE Utah!

MI Ranger

According to some news sources, the sight where it is located was a movie set. It is likely that they decided it was too hard to remove and just left it. Now some future generation will find it and wonder why it was placed there, and what it does…just like the pyramids!

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman

Wait. Like the movie site for “Cleopatra”? IIRC, in the SoCal desert? That keeps being covered and uncovered in blowing sands? And then tourist idiots find as “proof” that the Egyptians settled in the Americas?

So……..if this “monolith” is from a movie, does anyone know what movie?

KoB

MI Ranger can you cite the site that made you cite that sight of the site? It may be a sight for sore eyes.

A movie set?

I recall watching that movie in Netflix, Timetrap, that was something like that.

I remember the wokesters critized the movie because all the actors were white pipple and the company was from Texas or something.

The movie was excellent, by the way, a title I rarely grant to Hollywood movies.

I saw that movie back in the ’60’s. It was called “2001: a Space Odyssey.” What happened to the apes and the thrown bone?

AOC’s mothership?

A Proud Infidel®™

Nah, that would look like either a dirty worn-out shopping cart or a discarded syringe!

If we’ve got an alien dicking around in our politics it’s Zuckerberg.

Besides, if AOC’s an alien she was dropped off with a promise “We’ll be back soon” before they bailed out, scrubbing the ship computer of the coordinates.

Zuckerberg is a Lizard person from the Earths core.

I thought he was actually the Lizard King from Planet Fallopia…my bad.

It’s a polished mirror for the Big Horn Sheep. Has to be metal cause the sheep will head butt their image. It has to be tall so the sheep climbing the ridge can use the higher side while the sheep on the ground use the lower level.

Quickly! Cue “Also Sprach Zarathustra”!!!

There should be another just like it on the Moon, in an appropriately large crater. We’ll find out soon enough… and then someone will detect one on Mars, probably buried in the ice of one of those ancient lakes, just waiting for us to arrive….

Fjardeson

Yeah, but if you find TMA-1, it’s probably a good idea to leave it in the ground, at least until 2021.

….b-b-b-but we’re almost there….!! What will we do!!!

Did you know that SIRI is actually the HAL-3000’s mother? I told the guys at the Sprint store about that, and they all knew about it…. Scary, but true.

This one isn’t the correct dimensions. Should be 1x3x9, IIRC.

NHSparky

1x4x9…dammit.

FWIW: the first three primes are not 1, 2, and 3 – one isn’t a prime number. Like zero, it’s neither prime nor composite.

The first 3 prime numbers are 2, 3, and 5.

Is there a matching monolith on the opposite side of the earth?

I think it’s in Moretus crater. There’s a photo of something (including the uplift) here:

Could be another one in Petavius crater, too. They’ve already dug out a roadway there.

That monolith is actually a mirror that shows the direction to where the Arc of the Covenant is when the sun hits it. Story goes that it was taken by Allied Van Lines roughly 2,000 years ago for storage so adventure movies could be made about archiologists wearing fedora hats and leather jackets trying to find it. Maybe in the basement of a Govt. warehouse but only surmising.

Meanwhile…

“Utah’s Bureau of Land Management is assessing whether further investigation is necessary.”

Either it’s illegal and should be removed or it’s not and no further investigation is needed. Wow. Way to take the reins on this one Utah. You guys make up your minds much?

rgr769

They need to call in that team of Fan Belt Inspectors (FBI) that cracked the great NASCAR noose pull-down cord case. It only took the thirteen of them about three days to solve that “hate” crime. But I would put my faith in Scully and Mulder to sort this out, if they are available.

Only Army Mom

Oh, am I going to have fun tomorrow with this. I have a family member that will go into full prepper, stock up the ammo and seeds, head for the hills mode.

Not like those are valid things to do anyway…

There will soon be another 1x4x9 monolith discovered somewhere near Jupiter and a mission to find out just where the rabbit hole goes a ship is being built in Boca Chica to be assembled in mid altitude Earth orbit and sent to Jupiter to find out what really is going on there.
If you haven’t seen the second movie of 2001, “2010, the Year We Make Contact” it’s better than the first one was.
Roy Scheider is the lead in it with John Lithgow playing a supporting part. In the plot, the Russians work with the Americans to get the Discovery working again.
Hal gets restarted and it’s a ton of fun !!!
It’s the beginning of CGI but, the effects are pretty good considering how dated the movie is.
Great movie, hard to find, but still a great movie !!!

ChipNASA

Yeah, they were trying to keep its location a secret but, TAH DAH, the internets and folks took a slovnly 48 hours to find it and scoot out thre….
LMFAO…still a mystery thugh…

David Surber of Utah, an Army infantry officer veteran according to the article, set off on a six hour journey Wednesday to get there. He arrived in the pre-dawn hours and after sunrise was joined by other adventurers, ignoring state guidance to not seek it out. […]
