Gun Totin’ Gal Takes Her Gun To Work

| November 24, 2020

That’s the kind of gun I’d like to carry when I go grocery shopping.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has applied for a permit to carry her gun to work in the Capitol.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A firearms-toting congresswoman-elect who owns a gun-themed restaurant in Rifle, Colorado, has already asked Capitol Police about carrying her weapon on Capitol grounds, her office has acknowledged. If she does so, she apparently won’t be alone.

The practice is allowed for lawmakers, with some limitations, under decades-old congressional regulations. The public is barred from carrying weapons in the Capitol, its grounds and office buildings.

Republican Lauren Boebert, 33, was elected this month from a conservative western Colorado district after gaining notice as a brash pro-gun activist who straps a Glock pistol to her hip. In an upset last June, she defeated five-term Rep. Scott Tipton for the GOP nomination, in part by claiming he wasn’t an ardent enough backer of President Donald Trump.

Boebert asked Capitol Police officials about carrying her weapon when she and other House freshmen taking office in January were in town recently for orientation programs, according to two congressional officials. Both people — a Democrat and a Republican — spoke on condition of anonymity to describe her request. – article

Per Framm’s article, Rep. Boebert is not the only gun-totin’ Congress Critter in WDC. There is simply no list of who does and does not carry a weapon to work.

The following is also in the article, regarding a 1967 law passed that allows this action: A 1967 regulation says no federal or District of Columbia laws restricting firearms “shall prohibit any Member of Congress from maintaining firearms within the confines of his office” or “from transporting within Capitol grounds firearms unloaded and securely wrapped.” – article

While there may be a movement underway to somehow deprive Americans of their legal Constitutional right to bear arms, which is left to the states to regulate, and P-E Biden has hinted that he wants a “buy-back” at the federal level (don’t get me started on the stupidity here), don’t get your undies in a bunch about that kind of thing. Most of it is noise to get votes from the village idiots who want handouts and will go steal guns to do drive-by shootings in the ‘Hoods. Don’t think so? Yeah, then explain the drive-by shooting, from a stolen Jeep Wrangler, of a 5-year-old boy sitting in a 2nd floor apartment on a couch, playing a game on his tablet.

Good for her!

Slightly off topic – any of you hard chargers have a recommendation for a “shorty” shotgun for home self-defense?

11B-Mailclerk

Stoeger Coachgun, a 20″ side-by-side.

Any major-brand 20″ pump-action. Consider the “deer” barrel, smoothbore but with rifle type sights.

A reliable shotgun that fits, that feels most comfortable, is the right one.

Which one is that, the military Mossberg 12 GA pump with door breaching flash suppressor?

Green Thumb

Tried, proven and true.

A few years back I bought a 12 ga Mossberg pump that came with a 28 inch modified choke barrel, a pistol grip replacement for the stock and a 20 inch improved choke barrel for use with the pistol grip.

I tossed the pistol grip into the back of the attic, and installed the 20 inch barrel. I removed the magazine plug and load it with a mix of #4 buck and #8 birdshot and have a sleeve bandoleer on the stock with some of the same plus a slug or two just in case.

11B-Mailclerk

Birdshot is for birds. #8 birdshot is for very small birds.

If you want light buck, use #1 buck. I prefer double-ought.

Home defense – so whatever is easiest to dig out of drywall. 😉

I attended a tactical shotgun course several years ago. For the course I bought a Mossberg M590A1; it is identical to the military issue shotgun used by the Army. Mine has rifle sites with a ghost ring rear site. I put a pistol grip and folding stock on it. The Kel-tech shorty bull-pup models are very compact and they have two magazine tubes collectively holding 14 rounds, but they cost over twice as much as the Mossy. The extended mag tube on the M590 holds 7 rounds, IIRC. I would go with some form of pump or auto shotgun. A double barrel coach gun might be fine for a proficient cowboy action shooter wearing a shot-shell belt, but for home defense, naw. Cuz after you fire your Biden warning shots into the air, your shottie will only be useful as a club.

I thought I remembered a video on this woman’s restaurant. It’s called “Shooters Grill” and is appropriately located in Rifle, CO.

The waitresses are allowed to wear firearms during work.

What is interesting to me is that they interviewed several women who were not wearing a firearm. One said she was taking classes to be comfortable with a gun and the other said she wasn’t interested in carrying one.

The one lady who was not interested in carrying said she faced no harassment, no insults or put downs from anyone in the restaurant staff.

How refreshing is it to see a situation where people have the right to choose to exercise a right or not choose to exercise that same right.

That is quite different from some people in the political spectrum who not only choose not to exercise their right to bear arms, but demand that you do not exercise that same right.

Have long said that the compromise position is what we now have – carry or don’t carry as a personal choice. It makes no more sense to me to say that no one can arm themselves than to say that everyone must arm themselves.

One size fits all never works.

You go girl..get you some! I believe I’m more proud of her for defeating a 5 term Kongress Klown Kritter than anything else. Now if we could start a trend on THAT.

I too, remember the conversation or a linky about that cafe in Rifle. May have been imbedded in a comment here when I FIRST saw it. And I guess it goes without saying that I would prefer that the young Lady tote a design from a more Saintly designer V that plasticized abomination.

sbalm, before that tragic boat accident during the tornacane, crossing the flooded quicksand bog, I had a Mossy 88 12 gg 18 & 1/2 bbl padded stock. It was a real Maverick, could shoot canopy down, would goose a bad guy and put him on ice, man. Price was right and it was a ball to play with. I haven’t lost that loving feeling for the Mossy.

SFC D

I have the 20″, 8 rd Maverick. Stock was too long so I put on an M-4 type collapsible stock. Well, I did have one. It went the way of my 1911 after MRS D fired it. She now has a Maverick 88 and a 1911. Always stealing my tools.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions.

Nobody mentioned a .410, so I guess I have to think higher guage.

Any opinions on the Byrna HD? https://byrna.com/

David

Probably for the same reason no one is recommending a .22 Magnum. Why bet your life on a less effective tool if you don’t need to? Every defensive gun is a tradeoff dictated by the circumstances.

rgr769

The .410 has such a small shot load, I wouldn’t want to bet my life on it. As far as the Byrna pepperball pistol, I guess if one doesn’t want to send an intruder to the ER or the morgue, that would be a good bet. Personally, if I have to shoot some miscreant in my house, I want them ending up in the latter locus, so my version of why I had to shoot him is the only narrative for the authorities to consider.

In a home defense shotgun, you want 12 gauge unless you are recoil shy, as it carries the largest shot weight and volume. Double 00 buckshot and slugs are the way to go, if you don’t want to say you are sorry to the surviving intruder.

Another consideration is that if you shoot a dindunuffin, you will likely get sued. A dead one is worth less money-wise than one crippled for life.

Try a PDX-1 round.

I use them in my Judge. Can’t hit squat past 20 feet, but inside that distance? Ow.
