NYPD Attrition- Retirements, Resignations Surge

| October 17, 2020

Outgoing NYPD Chief of Patrol Fausto Pichardo

New York’s finest are voting with their feet, and who can blame them? Since late May, there have been 789 retirements, and 1,130 officers have filed for retirement. That’s nearly double the retirements and filings in the same period in 2019. Surprising exactly no one, a surge in violent crime has also been reported. Shootings were up 127% in September compared to the same month last year (152 vs. 67) according to crime statistics released by the NYPD. Year-to-date, there has been a 91% spike in shootings in the city compared to 2019 (1,163 vs. 608). Cause and effect, with NYC Mayor “Bolshevik Bill” De Blasio being the cause.

NYPD woes mount: Patrol chief’s sudden retirement part of ‘troubling’ exodus

Largest police force in nation sees 87% uptick in retirement filings compared to 2019
By Stephanie Pagones

The New York Police Department – said to be the largest police force in the nation – is in the grip of a “troubling” shakeup, as retirements and resignations continue to mount, officials said.

Union officials and others say the exodus is being fueled in part by pressure by racial justice advocates to defund police departments or impose major reforms.

The NYPD said in an email to Fox News this week that 2,385 officers have submitted their retirement papers this year as of Oct. 6 – an 87% increase from the 1,274 retirements reported during the same period in 2019.

The department said 372 others have resigned as of Oct. 6, five more than last year.

From March 26 to Oct. 5, 1,838 officers retired, compared to 999 during the same period in 2019, a surge of 84%, the NYPD said.

One of the most prominent losses was Chief of Patrol Fausto Pichardo, who oversees the “largest and most visible” unit within the NYPD — the Patrol Services Bureau.

Pichardo, the NYPD’s first Dominican chief of patrol, filed for retirement Tuesday after more than two decades on the job. He has held the position since Dec. 5, 2019.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea lauded Pichardo, 43, for his service at the helm of the Patrol Services Bureau, telling local affiliate FOX 5 that the department is also losing “a friend and a member of our blue family.”

“Fausto, when I tabbed him last year to be the chief of patrol, I never hesitated for a second, and I never regretted the decision for a second,” Shea said, calling him a “consummate professional.”

“Probably one of the most well-rounded individuals that we have. The total package. [A] huge loss and I wish him the best of luck.”

The only thing that surprises anyone with sense in their head is that Democratic politicians are surprised by the dissipating ranks of their police departments. Funding going down, respect from Mayors & DA’s going down, and crime is skyrocketing…who would want to hang around for that shit?

Even the police union can’t speak the truth.

They are leaving because no one has their backs and they will be crucified/jailed for enforcing the law per approved police regulations.

I don’t think “reform” means what they think it means.

BruteLarson

No, it doesn’t. Everyone should be worrying even more about what they replace them with.

Can you have purple streaks in your hair and an Ernie Guevarra neck tattoo and be NYPD?

Maybe soon.

DeBlasio can burn in the deepest pit of hell.

A 43 yo, 20 year Veteran that made Chief of a Division (the largest division) of the largest Police Force around. I think he’ll find something better than a Mall Cop at the local Interstate Outlet Shops.

More and more is the what if novel “Dies The Fire” looking like a how to manual than an entertaining tall tale.

The no cash bail for the State of New York probably had some impact, too. They keep arresting the same jerkoffs, and the miscreants are back on the street before the cops even have a chance to file their report. Don’t worry, though, those free Mets tickets will encourage them to show up for their court dates.

If the people of NYC don’t have the good sense to go rabid at the Mayor’s home and City Hall then they deserve what they have.

I have never seen people like those in large cities. They believe everything will always be good for them. No crime will touch them and the police will always be there to protect them.

Well NYC, guess again. Now you’re living the life of being afraid to go out, afraid to even go see a doctor when needed because you never know when it’s your turn to be mugged…and shot just for the shits and giggles of it. or, just shot because someone decided it would be fun. These places live in fear all the time and that was before Covid and the police leaving. More than them leaving has been the Mayors and City Councils trying to run the police from their chambers.

Now it seems they are even afraid to speak out and demand their city government to up fund the police and bring order back to their cities and homes.

So then, don’t want to speak out? Then don’t call out when you need help. Instead, applaud the looters, muggers, and murderers for their uplifting, forward-thinking, positive stance on racial inequality, BLM, ANTIFA, and those awful, terrible, abusive police officers. I’m sure the guy with the gun in your face will give you a pass and a pat on the back for your sympathies.

Instead of applauding, start to practice The Four Esses:
Suppress (shsssssss)
Shoot (a shovel does double duty here)
Shovel (see above)
Shut Up.

It will take time to practice and get it down, but gotta start sometime.

NYC, LA, Chicago, et al, need to learn every 25-30 years that when you eviscerate law enforcement, this is the inevitable result.

And then when crime goes down, people whine about, “muh civil rights!” again, with the inevitable results.

And so it goes.

Roh-Dog

I don’t know how to put this, so I’ll be blunt(ish).
There is a hollowed place in lower Manhattan that was viciously attacked in 2001. Many good men and women from the NYPD ran toward that danger, selfless in their desire to help their fellow New Yorkers, their fellow countrymen, strangers.
Those brave officers gave their last measure of devotion to a cause much greater than themselves, a civil society. A society of sacrifice.
Now Gracie Mansion is full up with self serving, vile and contemptuous political hacks, that same REVERED department is shedding its members that cut their teeth on that too clear September morning.
Those Officers carried friends and colleagues just to be bittered by bureaucrats hellbent in placating the dark underbelly of the city, all the while they’ve served with distinction.
I’ll pray for you New York City, that you’ll see the light. Maybe remember where you came from, where you aught to go. But this situation is going to get worse.
When your Warriors give up on you, you are finished.
