Nebraska bar owner charged with shooting and killing protester takes his own life

| September 20, 2020

The KoB tipped me off to the breaking news that Jake Gardner, who was recently charged with fatally shooting a “protester” outside his family’s bar back in May has taken his own life. We talked about Gardner’s case recently here.

Something we hadn’t reported on earlier, it seems that Mr. Gardner was an Iraq War veteran.

Before the indictment, Gardner, an Iraq War veteran, told KETV NewsWatch 7: “It’s stressful. I’m more anxious now than when I was flying to Iraq. I was in from the end of 2000 until the end of 2004. All trained up by 9/11. I was there in 2003 during the invasion and in Haiti in 2004 to break up the civil unrest.”

Gardner did not turn himself in after a warrant for his arrest was issued. His attorney, Stu Dornan, said Gardner had left Omaha and went to California after the shooting because he had been receiving death threats. He said Gardner was planning to return to Omaha Sunday evening and turn himself in.

Dornan has maintained that his client was acting in self-defense the night he shot Spurlock outside Gardner’s Hive Bar. That night, protests had broken out in the Old Market.

Dornan said last week’s indictment was “a shock to” Gardner” and he “was really shook up.”

The exact circumstances of Garner’s death remain unclear. His attorneys said his death was “by his own hand.”

Malicious, politically motivated prosecution drives a man to kill himself. Sad. From what I’ve seen of the case, he had a very, very good case for self-defense (so much so that the DA initially refused to charge him citing self-defense).

I haven’t been tracking this all that well but
He was defending himself and property
And they decided out of the blues to press
Murder charges on him because a mob told the DA too ???
Is Nebraska a blue state ???

Democrats feel self-defense is against “social justice,” law (if they haven’t made it already) be damned.

Skippy…and, Hell, everybody else that is a true Patriot here. I’ve been following this one since it started back in May. Y’all may recall I have NE connections thru Family. A nephew knew this Veteran, his Family and had been to their place many a time. We don’t know yet, and may never know, why he took this way out. As Mason mentioned, he had a pretty damn good case for self defense and at the end of the day may have walked free. But the whole “malicious, politically motivated prosecution…” thing reared its ugly head and here we are. And this was pure politics, all the way. Plus as any decent Attorney will tell you, one can never predict which way a jury will go. The Lawer for the dead domestic terrorist being a powerful State Senator would have cherry picked a tame judge and jury to make sure it went his way. Omaha, like any number of other cities, is full of SJW, remember, Warren Buffet has a lot of pull there and he has spent a bloody fortune on SJW Causes. If this had of happened in nearly any other city, other than maybe Lincoln, there would have never been an indictment, much less a trial. Again, as pointed out on this site, a Grand Jury can indict a ham sammich, getting a conviction is another story.

There are a lot of people up in arms over this, not only for the DA, but for the political lawer that pushed it all. Whether that does any good in the districts they represent would be questionable. We have seen time and again how certain nefarious ne’er do wells are returned to office. The PDRofMA kept sending a murderer back and he was made a Lion of the Senate.

I will continue to follow this, best I can. You may want to take the time, go back thru the linky and back track the stories to the very beginning.

I am not only saddened by this, I am really pissed.

According to the Gateway Pundit article, Gardner was initially found to have been justified in shooting the BLM scum that physically attacked him, by the Omaha DA. But the DA got so much push back, he asked a state court judge to appoint an independent prosecutor. That prosecutor charged Gardner with Voluntary Manslaughter, gun crimes, and a couple of other felonies. That prosecutor even charged him for firing the two Biden recommended warning shots. Bail was expected to be about $1mil. So, Gardner was anticipating spending many months locked up, which he apparently couldn’t deal with.

Justice don’t matter when Leftists are involved, he felt.

Sad. I read into the back story and I hope the prosecutor is satisfied. And I hope the electorate remembers this come reelection, and puts him on the street.

rgr769

The prosecutor who charged him is a U.S. Attorney; so he is not subject to election. He is a federal Civil Service protected employeel

I just watched the newser by the “special prosecutor.” Anyone want to guess his race?

Also, reports say that when the physical altercation began, the “peaceful protestors” who smashed the windows of his bar knew he was armed with a pistol (“he’s got a gun”). Then Scurlock (the DRT) jumped Gardner. I suppose Scurlock figured he and his homies (fellow peaceful protestors) could stomp Gardner to death before he could draw his pistol.

While the liberal media is doing their best to minimize the sacrifices and contributions we veterans have made, here’s another one that will piss you off!!! Hang this sumbitch to die!!!!

rgr769

Gee who could expect a feral pavement dweller/predator to do such a thing?

11B-Mailclerk

Obey the Red Guard or suffer the consequences.

Expect even more blatant examples in the next two months.

Jarhead

Thanks for the advice, from either or which side it came from. Already lived a full life and would accept the consequences, knowing I’ll not be a martyr, but would go out with a smile on my face knowing I took as many as possible from the other side along with me.

In total agreement with your expectations.

There is the peace of respectful coexistence.

Then there is “make a desert and call it peace”.

One way or the other, give peace a chance.

OWB

No words. Just no words for how sad this is.

A man persecuted and prosecuted for defending himself and his? This is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!

It’s getting pretty close to pitchfork time.

“JAKE GARDNER’S LIFE MATTERED” Need a sign, some shirts, hats, and bumper stickers. Time for a few “mostly peaceful” protests.

Reaperman

I can kind of see this. Even with a good case, it’s an expensive defense in terms of time and money. The whole time the media would be dragging him daily, and there’d be violent (or at least loud) protests bothering him and his family. I’m pretty sure I’d at least strongly consider his option in the same situation. The world of 2020 just isn’t much worth bothering that much with.

Jarhead

Good point you make there. What was the alternative? Spending the remainder of one’s life on the run, or allowing some renegade prosecutor to use unlimited funds from big bro. and lock you up with some lifers who would finish the job just for an extra pack of smokes.

The expenses you reference would have kept the poor man penniless for the remainder of his looking-over-the-shoulder life. OWB was sadly so absolutely correct. His JAKE GARDNER’S LIFE MATTERS is of pure and logical thought as a balance against the “MATTERS” influencers which I truly believe would be supported from one end of the country to the other by veterans who care about their brothers. That starting point could easily originate right here on TAH, providing the admin team was willing to accommodate us. If not, at least allowing the origin to be shown a number of times would add to the numbers willing to get involved. Reading the entire story shown on KEVT News Watch 7 shown up near the top of the page can only conclude OWB’s point of view as absolutely valid. The time is now. Leader please step forward. An accurate periodic balance sheet and flow chart available to all (as so MANY other groups do NOT provide) would be the catalyst for welcomed donations so many veterans would be willing to donate. Again, Leader please step forward.

Never quit.

If only to deny the bastards the satisfaction.

Never quit.

Head-butt the hangman.
