Bill of Rights? Never heard of it

Fox News reports that during a press conference last night, Mayor Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles announced that he’s authorized the city to shut off power and water to properties that are violating Coronavirus gathering restrictions.

“We know we can do this,” Garcetti said, responding to a question about the measure’s legality.

Off the top of my head this sounds like violations of the 1st, 4th, and 5th Amendments. Anyone else see additional ones?

Does this also mean no more protests, I mean rioting, in Los Angeles?

What about the homeless living on the streets in Los Angeles? Is the Mayor gonna shut down their water and power as well?

We all know that if the Mayor was a Trump Supporter, that Hollywood and Joy What’s Her Face from “The View” would be all over this.

There’s also the issue when grandma has her insulin that needs refrigeration suddenly has no power. Or a baby dies from heat stroke the following day.

And I’m not even sure how they plan on making this stick without a court order. It’s a pretty clear 4th amendment violation of everyone who resides at the residence.

So a single mother is at work, her dipshit kids decide to have a house party and she comes home to the power and water in her house shut off permanently? And what is their solution for all the folks hanging out at the beach in violation of the “rules”?

Garecetti is fixin to find out how difficult navigating a non-cooperative populace is for police. After he falls on his face perhaps there will be a defund the city government movement?

Presuming the electricity would be cut off as described, does that also mean churches, schools, entertainment venues (concerts included), ball games, government bodies meeting (inc. City, County, or State commissions), charity EVENTS, political campaign events, and so on. That wold take a LOT of po po to enforce such an order. Why not go full Commie and just shoot people when they do not bow down? Then mark the sheeple who lick boots with the mark of the Beast. Plain and simple, either you are a marked member of the “IN” crowd, or you are six feet under being enjoyed by maggots.

He’s shutting off the water? Well, what if you’re NOT one of those scumbags that won’t wear masks properly or at all, and your house suddenly goes without water to flush the crapper out to the sewer lines? What then?

We get exactly the politicians we deserve.

When we refuse to acknowledge the turds in our midst while pretending it’s always only the turds amongst those others, this is where we end up.

When we agree that a war on drugs is a good thing, except for the fact it’s a massive failure at stopping drugs but it’s been great for militarizing the police, violating the Bill of Rights prohibitions against seizures, warrants, etc…

The drug war brought us those no knock warrants, it brought us civil asset forfeiture, excessive fines based on that forfeiture…

The war on terror is a 20 year unmitigated disaster that’s brought us secret courts where secret things happen that you’re not allowed to know about for “your safety” or my personal favorite “national security”…the number of rights we surrender for national security reasons is an abomination.

Those were all bipartisan acts of intrusion and infringement upon your rights.

But most of our fellow Americans were happy to sit back and pretend those were not at all infringements because after all they were not personally affected by those infringements. That’s the problem with selective outrage over infringements. When it finally gets around to something you are interested in the government’s already decided it has the authority based on the lack of resistance to those previous infringements.

Government is an evil, a necessary evil to be sure but that never makes it a good under any circumstance. As with all evil that means it bears constant, unwavering scrutiny and restraint lest that evil find itself unleashed to corrupt society in ways both large and small.

Totalitarian government can be socialist or fascist. But it’s also disguised as a free republic on occasion and that is when it’s truly ugly, because those exercising their totalitarian restraint believe they are infringing on your rights for your own good and thus they will be both undeterred and unfailing in their exercise of control as it’s what’s best for you in the long run whether you like it or not.

Fuck LA, fuck the criminals who run it, and fuck the morons who keep voting them in. I detest that godforsaken smogged-out cesspool of a metropolitan area, and will happily drive 100 miles out of my way to avoid it if I have to travel northwest for some reason—incidentally, doing so will, on average, save me at least an hour of drive time due to the absurd traffic on LA county freeways.
