Supreme Court – Trump Keeps Building His Border Wall – Covfefe from the left

| August 1, 2020

Oh no,  that Wall is still going up.  Every day, every hour,  every minute… that wall keeps getting longer.  It appears that about 400 miles of “That Wall” will have been replaced or added by years end.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a request from environmental groups to stop construction of President Trump’s border wall while the administration seeks review of an appeals court loss.

The vote was 5 to 4, with the court’s more conservative members in the majority. Its brief order was unsigned and gave no reasons, which is typical when the court acts on emergency applications.

In dissent, Justice Stephen G. Breyer wrote that he feared that the court’s action effectively decided the case before the justices even considered whether to hear the administration’s appeal. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan joined the dissent.

A year ago, by the same 5-to-4 vote, the court allowed the administration to start using $2.5 billion in Pentagon money to build the wall on the southwestern border while the case moved forward in the lower courts. In June, a divided three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in San Francisco, ruled against the administration, saying Congress had not authorized the spending.

Here is the best part:

But the Supreme Court’s earlier order allowing the construction remains in place and will not expire until the court either denies the administration’s petition seeking review or agrees to hear the administration’s appeal and rules on it.

On July 22, the Sierra Club and the Southern Border Communities Coalition, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, asked the justices to lift their earlier stay. The alternative, the groups said, was to allow the administration to run out the litigation clock and complete construction in Arizona, California and New Mexico even in the face of an appeals court ruling that the work was unlawful.

So President Trump may finish construction in Arizona, California and New Mexico before they can stop him?   The Sitting President was elected, in part, to build “That Wall”.

Seems like a lot of Covfefe from the left while the President wins bigly.

‘…but as we’re walking along here, we’re not seeing any kind of imminent danger. There no migrants trying to rush towards this fence.’

Green Thumb

Yeah.

The wall went to page 10 in the paper.

No one really seems to care as I imagine a lot of the “anti-wall crowd” started to come to their senses and realized this was somewhat of a necessity and not a politically-charged issue.

Nah GT, no way they’re that smart, they just decided that the whole antifa riot crap was a better way to attack the President and the nation.

I find it funny how Authorities in El Paso openly said the the crime rate there took a huge nosedive after a Border wall was built, but things like that get censored by the mainstream DNC Propaganda media.

Mason

Of all of his stunts, that might be the one that lacks the most self-awareness.

Commissar

Strange, Obama presided over the building of more than 700 miles. Of course there was bi partisan support for that.

And Trump has only built just less than 250 miles. The other 200 he claims he built was repairing, not replacing, existing wall.

And of that 250 miles; only about 20 were replacing existing wall with “Trump” wall. So about 230 miles of new Trump wall and 20 miles of replacing existing wall with Trump wall.

So he has extended the total border wall but almost 230 miles.

So he only has about 1700 miles more to go before he has built his wall.

And Mexico did not pay for it. Do you know how we know? Because he could not start building the damn thing until congress funded it, so he had to take money from military construction; housing, facilities, schools etc.

Prior to that all he could do is repair existing wall and just to the specifications of the existing wall. Because that is he only funding he had and that funding had clear legislative restrictions saying it was for repair and not replacing existing wall.

Plus the wall was a bullshit, wasteful plan anyway.

There has never been a border wall in history that has been effective at keeping people out or in. Except when you put minefields and machine guns along with it… and if you do that all you need is a fence.

SFC D

Negative. The wall is very effective. There is no such thing as a perfect fence, but a good fence is much more effective than no fence. Much of the construction is to replace existing landing-mat fence (easily breached) with bollard fencing. Fencing, sensors (magnetic and seismic), surveillance cameras, and boots on the ground are all part of an effective deterrent. Anyone who tells you it doesn’t work has spent zero time looking at anything but Obama’s cages and is willfully ignorant.

Commissar

Have you done the math on building, maintaining, and putting boots on the ground to cover more than 1900 miles of wall to the specifications Trump claims he intends?

And as you said the wall needs to sensors, cameras, and manpower to be effective. However, even then it is only marginally more effective than fencing with the same sensors, cameras, and boot on the ground. But it is massively more expensive to build and maintain a than fencing.

Anyway, al this debate is pointless.

He is not getting his damn wall, it is too expensive, Mexico is not going to pay for it, it does not have the support of the majority of the American people, it does not have the support of the majority of congress, actually building it never will be funded, and Americans have far far far more pressing issues,

Ret_25X

Did Rachel tell you that? You really are a moron. Your self delusion knows no bounds. As Eric Weinstein would say, you are evergreening yourself.

Yes, and if we spent 100 times that amount it would be a better investment than even one dime for:

Student loan foregiveness
SNAP
Welfare
SSDI
the EEO Commission
The FEC
The NLRB
Housing “investments”
College and grad schools grants

In fact, anything YOU are in favor of is worthless and cannot be justified on any grounds.

But the wall…the justification is self evident.

YOU just don’t like living in America and have wet dreams of the utopia under Mao.

And yes, Mexico is helping to pay for it. In exchange rates and fees.

The snowflakes on Major Moonbat’s side of the political fence screech for a $15 per hour minimum wage while simultaneously screeching to allow illegal aliens in who will work for $5-10 under the table and do away with the $15 an hour jobs!

SFC D

I’ve done the math, I’ve done the footwork, I’ve worked shoulder to shoulder with CBP, and lived on the border nearly 30 years. I’ve maintained and installed the cameras and sensors. I can tell you, unequivocally and without doubt, that you know shit.

A Proud Infidel®™

HEY Major Moonbat, if walls don’t work like you say, then WHY do your heroes like Bernie Sanders and Malig-Nancy Pelosi live in Gated Communities surrounded by walls, fences and armed Guards?

Milo Mindbender

Dont forget the pope says walls don’t work, but lives in an entirely walled in country.
Amazing how many wall haters shout their complaints from behine their own walls.
CHAZ declared independence, and put up border check points to keep it pure, the well off in Malibu wall off beaches, and then scream for public funds to repair them when storms erode the sands.

You said something interesting. During the Obama administration, there was bipartisan support for Obama’s wall building. But now, the Democrats are doing everything in their power to stop Pres. Trump from doing the same thing. Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy and political shenanigans of the Democrats. It’s good to see you’re finally opening your mind and seeing how corrupt and politically divisive that group of scum are.

JAFR

There has never been a border wall in history that has been effective at keeping people out or in.

Come now, that’s just a silly statement to make. It’s so far from true that it’s laughable. Absurd even!

The Dead Man

I mean he does have a blindspot for the Chinese to the point it wouldn’t take me much convincing to believe he’s getting kickbacks from them.

Hey Textbook Dunning-Kruger, check out Hadrian’s Wall and the wall the Mexicans are building to stop South American immigrants. Also check out the numerous walls in Africa put up to help curtail things like poaching. Nevermind parts of Europe, your favorite place Israel and if you want to be cheeky, the DMZ.

A Proud Infidel®™

Gee whiz, yet another Trump promise getting fulfilled!!!

Commissar

Except it didn’t. Not even close. And Mexicomdidnt pay for it.

You all keep trying to manufacture desperate excuse structures to justify your support for this incompetent, grifter despot.

A Proud Infidel®™

HERE you go projecting yet again, Major Moonbat! President Trump has had one success after the other, I and others here see it as well as you projecting not only your own failures onto us, but those of your side of the fence as well!

You lose yet again, Major Moonbat!

timactual

“And Mexicomdidnt pay for it.”

LOL.
The only people who seem to care that Mexico didn’t pay for the wall are those opposed to the wall.

LC

Government spending only matters when the other side does it.

Mason

Used to be a time when both sides of the aisle were in agreement that government spending on national defense was a good thing.

11B-Mailclerk

Used to be the democrats agreed that the USA was a good thing.

LC

Our national security depends upon science and technology, but economically and militarily. How about we bump the budget of the National Science Foundation by, oh, 100 billion or so? Surely you support this – after all, both sides of the aisle should agree that government spending on national defense is a good thing.

While we’re at it, CIA could use an additional $20B to better tackle national security issues. Let’s do that too.

Slow Joe

The national science foundation has only been doing climate change research, so they can eat a bak of dicgs

LC

Huh, I guess I didn’t realize how their funding into quantum computing, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology all relate to the climate science boogeyman. Never mind the notion of why studying the physics of the earth’s climate system is bad.

Ex-PH2

I could use a couple of billion, LC, so add me to the list of “those who need cash”. Thanks!!

Mason

Not sure why you think I’d be against the NSF or the CIA getting funding.

Not a big fan of a number of things either agency has done, but I think they’re both necessary.

Personally, I’d like to see NASA funded more. Make NASA great again!

LC

Fantastic. I only hope you can convince your fellow conservatives of this approach. I’d expected more opposition, given how any increase in funding usually meets stiff resistance from conservatives.

If we could increase NASA too, all the better.

Fyrfighter

I guess your experience is different LC, but in mine, conservatives have no problem with government spending on things that government has a responsibility to do. Where the problem comes in is when they get into things they have no business doing, and creating huge bureaucracy to facilitate that inappropriate spending.
Of course, given our differing political viewpoints, we will have disagreements on which things fall into the “appropriate” and “not appropriate” categories for government spending, but that shouldn’t mean that we can’t agree on the concept.

What’s strange there spapos seagull is that all of the Kongress Klowne Kritters that have fought protecting our borders with a wall, live behind walls…and…GASP…pearl clutch…they are protected by men and women with…wait for it… GUNS!

Roh-Dog

Can we stop the flood of H1s too? Asking for a return on our investment of our own citizens.
The flotsam that’s here needs to Americanize before we allow more in, lest we ghettoize (more-er).

Dave Hardin

President Obama approved funds for maintance of existing border fence.

That was in 2009 mostly and very little of it actually got done.

President Trump stopped any more of that fencing from going up and replated it…

With a Big Beautiful Wall.

Even with the Liberal Hive Mind doing its best to slow him down President Donald J. Trump keeps winning.

Dave Hardin

President Donald J. Trump makes Mexico pay for new Border Wall by passing USMCA.

The hugely massive savings of money not sent to Mexico is more than paying for the wall.

NAFTA…Gone Trump keeps on winning.

Poetrooper

The savings to the US from USMCA simply by Trump ensuring that we finally got a fair shake from Canada and Mexico is far more than enough to build any border wall.

Once again, Short Round (I’m trying to break myself from calling him Dipshit–his favorite term) falls short.

Ex-PH2

Oh, Poe. don’t call him Short Round. That was the kid played by Jonathen Ke Quan in “Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom”.

Lamebrain, Thikazaplank, or Numbnuts – those are all good substitutes.
