Carjacker DRT

ST. LOUIS — A would-be carjacker died after exchanging gunfire Sunday night with a man whose car he attempted to steal in downtown St. Louis, police said.

Demarco Combs, 17, was shot about 9:45 p.m. near 815 Cole Street, north of America’s Center. He died at the scene.

Police said he was armed with a handgun when he tried to rob a 22-year-old man of his car. Police described the victim as “an armed citizen.” The two exchanged gunfire, and Combs was fatally struck.

The motorist suffered a minor shoulder injury, described by police as an abrasion.

Combs lived in the 4700 block of Bates Street.

St. Louis homicide detectives are handling the investigation. The death was not listed Monday among the 123 homicides for the year in St. Louis. The shooting is still under investigation and authorities hadn’t determined if the shooting was justified. Justifiable homicides are not included in the official count.

Last year at this time, there were 99 homicides in St. Louis, St. Louis police officer Michelle Woodling said.

Cole Street is the border of the Downtown and Columbus Square neighborhoods. According to statistics, both neighborhoods have seen an increase in crime this year, compared with the first half of 2019.

Just “an armed citizen” doing his civic duty.

I would count Combs’ death as a suicide. He played the odds against any of his carjack victims being unarmed, and he lost. Bigly.

If Mr Combs could come back to life and try again, would that be a “Combs over”?

There has to be a joke in there with “DeMarco” and “Polo”.

That’s because it is already listed as a Corona death.

Be cool if you could remotely set off the airbags.

Kinda like the engineer-nerd who made a booby-trap porch package that would spray glitter and fart-spray all over when opened – with a GPS and internal camera so he could record and recover?

Yeah, the NASA guy. Those videos were SO FUNNY!

Years ago, I was taught how to make a device called a LURD – Long-range Urine Release Device. Basic concept is a harmless looking mechanical package that when opened ruptures a big baggie of “liquid”. Water with Tempra paint is a fairly harmless “hijinks” liquid. A gallon of month-old whizz is not.

Nasty thing to leave on someone’s porch for a porch-pirate to steal. Nasty.

Anyone see the latest on Levi Strauss and Company? CEO Charles V. “Chip” Bergh announced the company has joined the business wing of Michael Bloomberg’s “Everytown Business Leaders for Gun Safety” and declared that it would openly advocate for restricting the right to keep and bear arms.

Levi’s used to be the American symbol around the world. I always hated the way Wranglers fit. I guess I will now have to burn my jeans and Dockers and just wear 511s now!!! (I might as well look the part I play…you know “Contractor Pants”) 😉
