Hack Stone

Hack Stone would like to take this opportunity to declare that Elaine Ricci should have been awarded First Comment for the This Ain’t Hell Weekend Open Thread for 31 July 2020.

RGR 4-78

well done Hack.

Slow Joe

He didn’t say First, so his post doesn’t count.

The King of Loset is the First, not Hack Stone.

I mean, the King of Battle….

RGR 4-78

I don’t know about you Joe, but I see the word “first” in Hack Stones comment.

rgr769

Hey, give him a break. Reading, for some, with comprehension is hard, just like math.

HMCS(FMF) ret

BZ to Hack!

Slow Joe

I thought the rules were clear.

You have to say First, or some variation thereof, to claim the uncoveted wot.

SFC D

I’m agreeing with RGR 4-78 above. Hack Stone used a variation of First.

Hack Stone

Hack Stone

Hack Stone is the Boston Red Sox of Weekend Open Threads. It feels like 102 years since his last (and also first) First Comment on the Weekend Open Thread. He attributes his success to clean living and the support of the loyal employees of the proud but humble woman owned business that employs him, particularly the Vice President.

Roh-Dog

The BoSoxs are dead to me, shoulda known when they went after Yawkey Way.

Green Thumb

The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) has probably squirreled Elaine Ricci away into hiding in the bowels of their vile and villainous taxpayer-funded headquarters in Merritt Island, Fl.

MarineDad61

Green Thumb,
Good news….
[Phillip Dale Monkress; phony SEAL in FL : This ain’t Hell, but …]
remains #1 at the top of a simple Google search.
https://www.google.com/search?q=Phil+Monkress

Hack Stone

If you use Bing instead of Google, Phil Monkress of All Points Logistics TAH links come in starting at #5. Hack did find this article, looking like All Points Logistics is doing some interstellar scamming.

https://cm.hsvchamber.org/news/details/news-release-7-21-2020-07-21-2020

In space, no one call call you a phony US Navy SEAL.

Green Thumb

I cannot belie anyone in their right mind would let The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) even remotely near this project.

Scary.

The only rockets Phildo is interested in are meat rockets as he is a meatgazer.

Skippy

BHWHAHAHAHA !!!!!!
😜😀😂🤣😃😁🎉🎉🎉🎉😂

5th/77th FA

FIRST!

11B-Mailclerk

Short round.

5th/77th FA

Well I gave him as much rope as I thought he would need to hang her (Elaine). Over yonder bragging on the Gun Bunny Cannon Cocker Nurse type person of the Female Gland.

I guess, technically/legally, I could contest Hack’s Firstness to the TAH Wide World of Sports Corporate HQs for a ruling, since he only mentioned the word First, but did not call out/claim the FIRST. I’m sure that after the subject is brought for discussion (HA HA HA HA), and then voted on (NIX NEIN HELLS TO THE NAW NO!) I could reapply for an appeal in 90 days for further disapproval of my request for a ruling. And then again there is always the argument that are you allowed to claim a proxy FIRST for someone who is not even been seen a work for awhile.

Maybe I can find a lawer that is not maintaining a social distancing of minus 6 feet AGL to fly in and take the case.

Hack Stone

This mail in posts for First Weekend Open Thread comment are subject to massive fraud. It is your patriotic duty to wear a mask and post your claim of First Comment via Al Gore’s Amazing Internet, and the title is bestowed upon the one who has secured the most electoral comments, not the popular comments.

RGR 4-78

🙂

Slow Joe

Hack Stone never claimed the First…

SFC D

And you were third..,

Hack Stone

Hack Stone was the delegate for Elaine Ricci. it’s like Christopher Columbus claiming the New World for Queen Isabella. Centuries from now, they will erect statues in Hack stone’s honor, only to be toppled by angry mobs clad in spandex carrying blowtorches and pliers.

Poetrooper

Speaking of short rounds, Mail, may I suggest that we adopt that term in reference to to the individual I usually refer to in the scatological term, Dipshit, on this site?

It’s a military term that fits him so perfectly–always falling short of his target and creating an unnecessary disturbance when he lands among us.

11B-Mailclerk

Dud round

Its mere presence renders a thing dysfunctional.

Amy attention paid it comes away from useful effort.

If it does go off, it is uselessly.

26Limabeans

Had a guy in Vietnam everyone called “short round”.
He was short and portly.

Hack Stone

Roh-Dog

Congrats, HS.
Dodging too many d*cks over here to remember it’s Friday.
Have a great weekend y’all!

Sea Dragon

Top 10!

Slow Joe

I am never the first.

This is BS.

I’ll open another Bud Light.

ninja

“I am never the first”.

You said it. We didn’t.

Pity Party time?

😉😎

SFC D

Life is too short to drink shit beer.

RGR 4-78

Drinking light beer is like death by a thousand cuts.

Try some Shiner Bock Joe, you won’t be disappointed.

Graybeard

Shiner Bock is never out of place.

Except at a Baptist potluck. >sigh<

26Limabeans

Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA.
It goes down and it stays down.

Fyrfighter

Damn, beans, now I have to go tot he fridge and get me one!

Hondo

One caution about Torpedo IPA (and many other good IPAs as well): it’s way stronger than most regular beers. Torp is 7.5% ABV; many other good IPAs are also in the 7.0-7.5% ABV range. Most normal beer is 4.5-5.0% ABV.

Bottom line: unless you’re a really big guy/gal, two good IPAs may put you close to the legal limit; three certainly will. Plan accordingly.

Fyrfighter

Hop Bullet is over 8 Hondo, and you’re dead accurate, that’s why the farthest I’m travelling tonight is between the fridge and the TV showing ” The Horse Soldiers” with John Wayne…
Next week while travelling through Wyoming and Montana, I’ll have a goodly supply of growlers, so that those high ABV brews can come back to the hotel room, where the only hazard to my health is the missus.. (at least no-one else will be at risk)

NHSparky

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin.

7.0% IPA, and the grapefruit plays off it perfectly.

Poetrooper

When ol’ Poe lived in San Antonio many decades ago, Shiner put up a billboard on I-10 just north of downtown with the slogan,

“Our beer goes through five thousand Czechs a day.”

City Council made ’em take it down. Those were sure days of innocence, weren’t they?

Poetrooper

Oh, and being the authority he is on most matters of a gustatory nature, KoB has it cold on the beer issue:

Yuenglings…

The Stranger

Ahem…I have been extolling the virtues of Pottsville’s finest for quite a while, Poe.🍺

TallyWhagger

Amen.

RGR 4-78

That is funny.

Hack Stone

If you have to worry about calories, you have no business drinking beer.

Green Thumb

Damn straight.

Whiskey!

Graybeard

Before I agree, I want to know which whiskey is being proffered.

The Stranger

I just picked up a bottle of Canadian Club 12 for under 20 bucks! Best value going in whisky and, let me tell you, it is smooth!

11B-Mailclerk

Which kind?

The stuff with an E in it.

Green Thumb

After being in the North 40 for a long time, who cares!

Burns your asshole, makes your eyes water and has that nice medical smell to it.

Gotta work with you have!

The Stranger

Just tried a dram of Whistle Pig 10 year old Rye for the first time…100 Proof, SMOOTH and warm. Good stuff.

Hondo

Seriously, Slow Joe – try Yuengling. Much better than Bud Light, and not much more expensive.

Yuengling Light is also fairly good, but their regular is much better. And if you can find it, Yuengling Black and Tan is worth a try.

Fyrfighter

Hondo, that’s just mean! Yuenling is like mothers milk to an old PA boy ( after Guinness to an Irish boy), but out here in Colorado, we can’t get any… and this damn Kung Flu cancelled my trip to National Fire Academy where I planned to attempt to drown myself in it!

Slow Joe

Thanks.

I will try it.
I have been looking for a good light beer to replace Bud Light, and I haven’t found it.

I think Keystone light is passable, but I will give a try to Yuengling.

What’s up with the Chinese name?

Is that beer made in China?

Fyrfighter

“Yuengling is an Anglicized version of Jüngling, its founder’s surname and the German term for a “young person” or “youngster”.”

Oldest brewey in the US, in Pottsville PA

The Stranger

And currently the largest American-owned brewery. Anheuser-Busch is part of INBEV (Belgium), Miller is part of SAB (South Africa), Coors is owned by Molson, and Pabst is also foreign owned (Greek?). Yuengling is damn good beer at a nice price.

Fyrfighter

Yep, far better than any of the swill produced by the other breweries you mention

OldManchu

Try Shiner Light Blonde.
I’m a heavy IPA guy but if you want a light beer that’s far better than Bud Light, but not all filling give it a try. 99 Calories a bottle.

11B-Mailclerk

China beer?

Wu Brew

Green Thumb

Living out here in the Great NW, we have tons of breweries to choose from.

But an old school Busch Light Tallboy on a hot day is tough to beat.

The Stranger

When I was young and broke, a Busch tall boy hit the spot. $2.99 for a 6-pack of 16 ounce cans, heck of a deal.

Mason

If it makes you feel better, by the official rules of the International WoT “First” Competition Guide (First Edition, revised 2019), I am now ineligible to ever get the title.

I think the best I did was third or fourth. I’m happy with a top five showing.

ninja

Wow. I can only imagine what the survivors as well as family members of lost love ones are thinking right now.

Official document is embedded in the article:

“Court Overturns Death Sentence of Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev”:

https://nypost.com/2020/07/31/court-overturns-death-sentence-of-boston-marathon-bomber/

“An appellate court has tossed the death sentence and overturned three of the convictions of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.”

“The court in its ruling cited errors in the proceedings that found Dzhokhar guilty and condemned him to death.”

“The ruling will not result in Tsarnaev being freed, and the death penalty will now be revisited.”

“Dzhokhar will remain confined to prison for the rest of his life, with the only question remaining being whether the government will end his life by executing him,” the excerpt read.”

“The 224-page ruling was released Friday afternoon by federal appellate Judge Rogeriee Thompson.”

“The First Circuit judge said the convicted bomber will need to face another jury to redetermine if he’ll be executed.”

Note who appointed her…

Green Thumb

I think I might ask for the death penalty rather than live the rest of my life in a small, windowless room.

Graybeard

Dunno what their Death Row is like, but in Texas they even get out to the rec yard from time to time.

A small (1/2 court) yard fenced off from the others, but they can see each other and the sun.

With the average time from conviction to execution being over 10 years, they don’t seem to mind – until the date starts getting close.

A Proud Infidel®™

I think that our Death Row needs to be JUST LIKE what the Japanese give their Condemned, they have no idea what time will be their end.

“Lunch?”
“No.”
“Early Exercise Time?”
“No.”
“Visitation?”

“Too early for shower time, OH SHIT!!!”

Ever see the “Hot in Cleveland” episode where Luke Perry is growing a nose from his forehead for a transplant? (Maybe the most incredible guest star list ever on one episode – Carl Reiner, Luke Perry, Marion Ross, Craig Ferguson, Dave Foley, Steven Root, Tim Daly, and others… on one episode.)

Green Thumb

God Damn.

Slow Joe

I can’t believe it.

rgr769

So, this POS murdering terrorist, whose own attorneys admitted to all his murderous crimes, gets a new trial because some jurors heard about his crimes, like practically everyone else in the world. But Roger Stone can’t get a new trial even though his jury forebitch demonstrated her bias against him on social media, both before and during his trial.

Fyrfighter

rgr, it actually looks like he’s just getting a new sentencing… still bullshit, but not quite as bad… maybe…

5th/77th FA

Hell just give the S.O.B. house arrest; in the judge’s house. Wait till the word gets out that her G Grandpappy was a…gasp…slaveowner!

Fyrfighter

Screw that, convict him (already done), get every bit of intel out of him you can on his jihadi connections, walk him out back, put a bullet in his head (.22 to save money), and feed him to some hungry hogs….( Feel free to aerial spray the resulting pig shit over his country off origin)

rgr769

Uh no, he is getting a new penalty jury trial on whether he gets the death penalty or life in prison.

OldManchu

We should be better at killing our enemies swiftly.

Green Thumb

The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) continues to avoid calls seeking clarification of his Native American, Navy SEAL and Law Enforcement Officer claims.

On a side note, my dog dropped a huge, steaming pile of Phil Monkress in the neighbor’s yard.

Bummer.

A story worth having its own post for comments. “Virginia National Guard Welcomes First Female Infantry Company Commander https://www.wavy.com/news/virginia-national-guard-welcomes-first-female-infantry-company-commander/ “The Virginia National Guard welcomed the first woman infantry company commander on Saturday.” “Capt. Candice Bowen is the first woman to take command of a Virginia National Guard infantry company stationed out of Woodstock, Virginia.” “It feels a bit surreal,” Bowen said about being the first female infantry company commander. “I honestly am just ready to take charge of the company and lead my Soldiers.” “Bowen took command of the Woodstock-based Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Capt. Timothy England.” “Bowen’s advice to other female soldiers considering serving in infantry units: “Do it. Just jump in there. Do it aggressively, enjoy it, and have fun. If you enjoy it, have fun, and you are giving it everything you got, you will be absolutely fine. You will love it, and it will be the best thing you ever did.” “She became the VNG’s first female infantry officer when she graduated U.S. Army’s Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course in February of 2019.” “During the ceremony, her father, a retired Army sergeant major, pinned a blue infantry cord to her uniform, signifying her new military career field.” “It is important to recognize progress and success where we find it in our organizations both as encouragement for those who forge it but equally as an example for others to follow and as affirmation of the values we collectively hold,” said Col. No CIB?

rgr769

She wasn’t in an infantry slot back then, so she could only be awarded a CAB.

Welp, I guess lesbians, gay men and trannies will be running the combat arms of all services in another ten to twenty years, given the way the DOD is headed. But maybe after the progs completely take over, the entire military will be disbanded along with the police. That should make for interesting times.

Commissar

What the hell is wrong with you?

That is your take from this?

Sapper3307

Its a Combat Arms thing, you would not understand.

Commissar

I also held a combat arms MOS and the lack of understanding is on you two retrograde ignorant twits.

Sapper3307

He would have been “properly trained” in my unit.

A Proud Infidel®™

So did she actually EARN that slot, or did she ride the EO Quota wagon into it? Back in my days as a Combat Engineer we had a Female CO who did that and she completely sucked as a CO.

Commissar

Unclear.

You definitely earned your 11B assigned to the supply room slot.

And your “babysat by the sergeant major“ slot.

Poetrooper

Short Round, you sink beneath common human dignity and military honor by demeaning the roles of those here who also served.

But then, like the lefty you are, there is nothing beneath your dignity for like all your ilk, you have none.

Commissar

She is serving her country honorably and willing to serve in ground combat..

And some of you asshats attack her for it.

Pathetic.

How truly insecure do you have to be to find this an issue?

Sapper3307

Bradly Manning is waiting for you on Grinder, go get him big boy.

“One Marine Dead, Two Injured and Eight Others Are Missing After Training Accident Off California Coast”

https://www.stripes.com/news/us/one-marine-dead-two-injured-and-eight-others-are-missing-after-training-accident-off-california-coast-1.639501

“One Marine died, two are injured and eight others are missing at sea after a training accident in an amphibious assault vehicle off the coast of southern California, the Marine Corps said Friday.”

“The accident happened late Thursday afternoon near San Clemente Island, when Marines reported the vehicle was taking on water, the service said in a statement. The injured Marines were taken to a local hospital, where they are in critical condition, the statement said.”

“Fifteen Marines, all assigned to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, and one sailor were on the assault amphibious vehicle, which is used for storming beaches. They were part of a routine training exercise with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group when the accident occurred. The 15th MEU is based at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.”

“Five others were rescued. Search and rescue efforts, supported by the Navy and Coast Guard, are underway for the eight missing service members, Marines said.”

“The USS San Diego and USS Somerset, amphibious transport dock ships that carry assault amphibious vehicles in the well deck, are part of the search.”

A professor replied-all, warning about what the link actually was — not a survey, but pornography.” “Duncan quickly responded from his own account: “My apologies that my home computer was hacked.” “Duncan said in a follow-up message to the faculty that his home computer had been compromised by “severe risk” malware.” “Personally, I am appalled, humiliated, angered, embarrassed, and distressed that I allowed this to happen,” he said, according to the messages obtained by the Journal. “I realize that this appropriately offended and hurt you, and that it appropriately warrants a loss of the trust and confidence you may have in my service as your Provost. I intend to commit my fullest efforts going forward to re-earning that trust, and if this proves unattainable than to leave your service for more capable leaders.” “Duncan has been on leave since Monday. “This Soothing Submarine Video Will Put You Straight To Sleep”

https://www.armytimes.com/off-duty/military-culture/2020/07/31/this-soothing-submarine-video-will-put-you-straight-to-sleep/

“Have you ever heard of ASMR?”

“Autonomous sensory meridian response — it’s a brain tingling phenomenon that involves soothing sounds putting people straight to sleep.”

“ASMR is a perceptual sensory phenomenon, likened to meditation, which encompasses a pleasant and calming ‘tingling’ sensation localized to the scalp and neck in those able to experience it,” according to an NIH article entitled ‘Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response: What is It? and Why Should We Care?’

“These sensations are triggered by specific auditory and visual stimuli such as whispering, personal attention, and even being the subject of a physician’s clinical examination. People looking to experience ASMR turn to the website “YouTube” where videos have been produced that utilize these triggers. These videos are generally watched by users in a quiet environment to achieve the relaxing effect of ASMR.”

“While those YouTube videos typically involve some gentle whispering, unboxing items or tapping plastic, you probably have never been lulled to sleep by the dulcet sounds of rushing water as a submarine makes a dive beneath the waves, until now.”

“It’s just as soothing as playing Endless Ocean — if you grew up in the 90s and your parents bought you a GameCube. Just kick back and let the water rush over you.”

“While you are being lulled to sleep though, it’s worth noting that surfacing can be one of the most tense moments for submariners, whether in combat or just entering a crowded harbor. You might call it the calm above the surface.”

Sending a few Yuenglings “down the hatch” is a soothing way to get me submerged under the covers.

“There’s A Movement Building To Reverse DoD’s Policy On LGBTQ Pride Flag and Other Banners” https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2020/07/31/theres-a-movement-building-to-reverse-dods-policy-on-lgbtq-pride-flag-and-other-banners/ “House Lawmakers on Friday approved plans to block the Defense Department from banning the display of LGBTQ pride flags as part of the fiscal 2021 defense appropriations measure, demanding the symbol be allowed in all public areas.” “The final vote on the spending bill came one day after dozens of lawmakers signed onto a letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper, calling on the Defense Department to reverse parts of a July 16 memo that effectively banned flags other than those representing states and allied countries from being displayed in public or common areas on military installations.” “The policy, written in response to pressure to ban the Confederate flag across all DoD property, is written in such a way that flags other than allied country, state and unit flags are unauthorized outside of private housing rooms and vehicles, targeting service members who might display a favored sport’s team’s ― as well as one representing LGBTQ pride or that of support of a Native American tribe, as the lawmakers argued.” “The implicit banning of these symbols of diversity and inclusion runs counter to our ideals as a nation and a military,” the letter reads, signed by Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., Rep. Anthony Brown, D-Md., Rep. Chris Pappas, D-N.H. “The Department must have the strength and courage to be able to simultaneously stand against a symbol of hate and oppression in the Confederate Battle Flag while allowing the display of support for civil rights, equity, and justice.” “Defense Department spokesmen did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter.” “In the weeks since the memo dropped, critics have questioned Esper’s reasoning for banning so many flags in the interest of rooting out one.” “Whether intentional or not, by banning the Pride flag, Secretary Esper effectively told the tens of thousands of LGBTQ American patriots who proudly serve this nation that their service and symbols of their diversity are somehow divisive and unwelcome,” said Jennifer Dane, interim executive director of the Modern Military Association of… Read more »

“Plan To Change VA Motto To Include Women Draws Republican Support”

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2020/07/30/plan-to-change-va-motto-to-include-women-draws-republican-support/

“A House panel on Thursday advanced plans to replace the Department of Veterans Affairs mission statement with gender-neutral language, with Republican lawmakers offering strong support to the idea in opposition to the administration’s objections.”

“The measure — sponsored by Rep. Kathleen Rice, D-N.Y. — would change the current statement from “To fulfill President Lincoln’s promise ‘To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan,’” to the less specific “To fulfill President Lincoln’s promise to care for those ‘who shall have borne the battle’ and for their families, caregivers, and survivors.”

“The language has been at the center of an ongoing fight between women veterans advocates and department leaders since the start of President Donald Trump’s administration in 2017. Critics have called the motto outdated since it refers only to male veterans.”

“VA’s current gender-exclusive motto doesn’t properly acknowledge (women’s) service, and that is simply wrong,” Rice said. “We’re just as grateful for their service and sacrifice as we are for anyone brave enough to put on our country’s uniform. That is why we must pass (this bill), to ensure that these veterans receive the respect they deserve.”

“Department leaders have brushed off the effort as political correctness run amok, saying that changing Lincoln’s words would amount to revising history.”

Green Thumb

It should be done.

Just remove the direct quote.

Seems like folks are all in.

Its just the media attempting to beat the war drum, again.

But Lincoln gave the Emancipation Proclamation.

Is his statue still standing? Or sitting, I guess.

Greetings from the Tampa Bay Area of the Florida Gulf Coast. Drove back here from MS yesterday. Will stay put here as hurricane Isaia make its way up the Florida east coast and then the U.S. east coast, and then make our way north up the east coast behind it to return to our northeast leftist blue shithole home of residence…

Interesting observation from our months long roadtrip. We have traveled and stayed across the length and width of Florida, drove through Alabama, stayed for days and weeks in Mississippi, Louisiana, western Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and parts of northern Texas. During our trip, we have come across literally ten of thousands of Trump 2020/MAGA bumper stickers, yard signs, placards, posters, flags, banners, etc. We have not seen ONE, NOT ONE, Biden or demonrat campaign item. I’m sure they are out there somewhere in the states we have traveled, but I can honestly say we have seen zero zilch nada of them. I know this observation means very little in terms of the overall 2020 national campaign, but it is what we have factually observed. You can make what you will of it…

If the moderators feel this is trolling, I of course have no problem if you delete the link – but CSIS (the think-tank, not the Canadian intelligence one) is a pretty respected, bipartisan group. The article has details on left/right-wing politically motivated violence:

Article:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/27/us-rightwing-extremists-attacks-deaths-database-leftwing-antifa

Study:
https://csis-website-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/s3fs-public/publication/200616_Jones_Methodology_v3_0.pdf

Now, obviously, Antifa is fairly new, but the right-wing/left-wing stats are shown since the same year (2010). It also does not include the most recent protests. I’m sharing not because I expect anyone here to suddenly say, “Huh. Guess I was wrong, and there is a problem with right-wing terror!”, but because it is information worth reading, even if you ultimately pick at the methodology.

Ret_25X

Gee, their definition of “right wing” includes collectivist, socialist, and radical race groups.

Now, since collectivism, socialism, and racial identity are all left wing ideologies, I wonder why they call such groups “right wing”?

For the same reason such “think tanks” classify Hitler as “right wing”?

Once I realized that racism was simply the lowest form of collectivism, I have never been fooled by such propaganda.

Nearly ALL of the groups identified are LEFT Wing by the very defining characteristic of their ideology…collectivist identity.

Through a little research, we find that there are almost no “right wing” groups in existence due to the very nature of group identity and politics.

This is NOT to say that these groups are not vile and violent. Only to point out that all think tanks are evergreening your mind. To understand this process, you have to listen to Eric Weinstein’s podcasts where he articulates how the think tanks and media are cannibalizing our minds for their own profits.

You are welcome for the pro tip in COINTELPRO

And now, in Politicians Behaving Badly, we start with the Tennessee State Senator who stole $600K from a company she direct to pay, in part, for her wedding:

https://www.foxnews.com/us/tennessee-senator-stole-600k-to-pay-for-her-wedding-then-cover-her-divorce

But 600K is peanuts compared to Ohio, where there’s a blistering 60 million dollar bribery scandal still unfolding:

“Politicians behaving badly”

When do they do otherwise? In all seriousness, I’d very much like to see examples made of these people. All the more reason why we need term limits, and why any politician who becomes a millionaire while in office should be automatically investigated.

I heartily accept the motto, – “That government is best which governs least”; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Commissioner Wretched

Since nobody noticed the week’s trivia hadn’t been posted yet (I’ve had a rough day), let me just leave this here. If you like it, I’m happy. DID YOU KNOW…? Did an American president once dream about his own assassination? By Commissioner Wretched Earlier this year, while schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I caught a meme on the Internet that made me laugh. In it, a parent who was stuck home schooling their children was offering anything and everything to teachers, if they would just take their “heathen” children back. The writer offered dragon-skin notebooks, a personal chef and masseuse, and even a unicorn to the teachers – whatever they wanted, because home schooling finally made it clear just how important teachers really are. As we get ready for another school year, let’s all remember how important teachers are … and treat them accordingly. For my part, I’m going to give them all the trivia I can find! (I was a teacher for 27 years, I know what they go through.) So here, teachers, just for you … fun facts to enliven your classrooms this year! Did you know … … caterpillars have more than 2,000 muscles? (I bet I could beat one up, though.) … the Hundred Years’ War lasted longer than that? Fought between England and France, the war stretched from 1338 to 1453 – a total of 115 years. (I give them some latitude for that, though – education wasn’t a big thing back then, so maybe they just couldn’t count.) … the average child in America sees more than 100 television commercials a day? (It’s like the classic line … “Do they get the message?” “They see it, but they don’t get it.”) … the Colosseum in Rome was very easy to exit? Able to hold 70,000 spectators at its prime, during the Roman Empire, the vast amphitheatre could be completely cleared of all people in three minutes. The marvel of the ancient world took 12 years to build. (Compare that with today’s stadiums, which take an hour to get out of. You… Read more »

The Hundred Years’ War, where the English won the big major battles that we remember today (Crecy, Agincourt, Poitiers) but the French persisted and ultimately won the war.
