Man fatally shot in apparent case of self-defense in Moreno Valley

In an apparent case of self-defense, a man was fatally shot during a family disturbance in Moreno Valley on Sunday morning, officials said.

Deputies arrived at 1:15 a.m. to a home in the 23700 block of Blackbird Circle to a report of a family altercation, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

“An estranged family (member) arrived at the location and broke into the residence while threatening to cause harm to the occupants,” a sheriff’s statement said. “The occupants confronted the estranged family member who became hostile. During the altercation, a resident used a firearm against the assailant.”

Deputies found Cesar Acosta, 43, of Moreno Valley suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“At this point, the shooting appears to have been done in self-defense,” the sheriff’s statement said.

^Testify^ ‘beans! Maybe dirtbag will catch a good case of food poisoning from a bad wiener at the local BTJ&T Deli, or at the very least, suffer a broken taint. In the meantime, as WW gently weeps, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

“6 of the best guns for home protection….” Tho that NightHawk is drop dead gorgeous and I would consider proposing Holy Matrimony to it, 8 large is rather spendy. For that kinda disposable income, one could buy 2 of everything shown, a nice matched pair of 1911s AND a jon boat that don’t leak.

Was gonna take in the sights here today: DAAAAAAMMMN IIITT!

Six best guns for home defense.
Sure. If your home is a mansion and money is no object.
Two of those guns seem rather pricey for the average man/average income/average home defense.
As Gun Bunny said, that Nighthawk at $8K is waaaay expensive. Ditto for the Ruger AR556. Excellent models of both styles (1911, AR15) can be procured for approximately $500/ea (or less if you catch a good sale).

The Ruger is a better quality AR… try pricing a Springfield Armory Saint. You can get crazy but $5-1500 is a reasonable market for ARs. The Nighthawk is just silly. I like how he specifies “home defense” and then starts nattering about concealed carry. One of the nice things about home defense is that size does NOT inhibit choice. For my money, a 4-5″ barrel .357 (probably a 586 or 686 or similar), the higher capacity Glock 17 (or for personal preference a HiPower), a standard 1911, and an AR would be sufficient for pretty much anything. Used M12 shotguns run about $400, and you can find a spare barrel set to cut down for about $200 … the slam-fire is worth the extra money. Failing that, a Mossberg set up for the mini-shells to have lots of capacity. My $.02

AW1 Rod

Missing from that “best of” list is the Standard Manufacturing DP-12, which can ruin the evening for anywhere from 12 to 14 rioters…..er, “protesters.” It’s my dedicated Zombie Killer. It is, however, kind of pricey.
