Sensors detect rise in nuclear particles on the Baltic Sea, global body says.

VIENNA (Reuters) – Radiation sensors in Stockholm have detected higher-than-usual but still harmless levels of isotopes produced by nuclear fission, probably from somewhere on or near the Baltic Sea, a body running a worldwide network of the sensors said on Friday.

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) oversees a network of hundreds of monitoring stations that use seismic, hydroacoustic and other technology to check for a nuclear weapon test anywhere in the world. That technology can, however, be put to other uses as well.

One of its stations scanning the air for radionuclides – telltale radioactive particles that can be carried long distances by the wind – detected unusually high levels of three radionuclides earlier this week: caesium-134, caesium-137 and ruthenium-103.

The Stockholm monitoring station “detected 3isotopes; Cs-134, Cs-137 & Ru-103 associated w/Nuclear fission @ higher than usual levels (but not harmful for human health)”, CTBTO chief Lassina Zerbo said on Twitter (here) on Friday evening.

The particles were detected on “22/23 June”, he added. – article

Remember that unexplained explosion at a Russian test site last year? Just sayin’….. 🙂 Isn’t that the general area where Russian subs migrate through the depths?

Of course, it can simply be that someone sneezed and left the door open during a watch station break.

I’ll go with someone left the door open for a true daily double.

Wonder if I could have detected it from here? Was gonna make a spirited attempt to get to the top of this rascal.

Could it be caused by radiation leaking from one of those Ruskie nuke subs lost in the Baltic Sea years ago?

Liquid wart remover would take care of that.
Might take more than one application though.
Just don’t pick at it and wash your hands.

Stood on top of that stump in 1983. One awesome climb!

I wonder if it is connected to the recent magnetic perturbations?

https://spaceweatherarchive.com/2020/06/25/a-magnetic-anomaly-ripples-around-the-world/

Sensors gettin sensy lately.

26Limabeans

Yeah, that too. Seems to be rapidly shifting beyond
predictions of the past and noticible on a simple compass.
I forget what the normal declination is, maybe 12 degrees.

So much mystery lately. Harbinger of something, but what?

Wonder if Vlad might be short one nuke submarine?

A very astute observation.

NHSparky

Not likely.

Ruthenium and Cesium are more indicative of Pu-239 versus a U-235 source, which would be more Cesium with Strontium/Zirconium.

Last time I checked, even the Russians weren’t using Plutonium for their reactors.

26Limabeans

Whst’s in the warheads?

Hondo

Gotta wonder if perhaps the Russians were running a test with MOX fuel in a production naval reactor and something went badly wrong.

Did they do A bomb testing over there? Something to worry about and look what happened in Japan back in 1954. Anyone remember how much damage Godzilla did over there.

Well, it is interesting. All 3 isotopes indicate fission of U235 by slow neutrons. The Cs134 would come from shielded U235 (fuel rods or slats?

FWIW I’m a current FA52 bur certainly do now know it all, despite what I pretend.

Obviously, I am also a genius when typing on a phone….

I’m usually a much gooder speller.

Oh, that happens to all of us, I am sure.

You can easily tell the difference when someone is sitting in the toilet typing furiously or properly seating on a desk with a full keyboard desktop.

So, Vlad finally discovered how to power his secret time machine.

I wonder what his first mission will be. 1991 or 1917?

Perhaps 1533. Ivan IV Vasilyevich could use some help. When you think about it, Ivan became Grand Prince of Moscow at age 3, and was declared the first Tsar of Russia at age 16 by his regent council.
That sounds fishy. I suspect Vlad went back in time and got Ivan promoted to Tsar. Perhaps he even replace Ivan…..?
(plays conspiracy tune)

30+ years ago I recall seeing TV news footage of ships of the former Soviet Union dumping what was stated as nuclear waste over the side in the North Sea, etc. The below links may be related to that time and to this current story:

Google search lists close to four million hits on this topic, so it is covered extensively.
