Joe Harvey Shoots Other Vehicle in Road Rage-Lawyer Blames PTSD

| June 22, 2020

Joe Harvey felt that the driver that drove into the lane in front of him cut him off. He followed this driver until she pulled into a parking lot. He got out of his vehicle and confronted her. An argument followed. Joe Harvey decided to “drive his point home” by grabbing his weapon and shooting the other driver’s car. He called 911 and was subsequently taken into custody.

From the Military Times:

Defense attorney Ralston Jarrett, in arguing for bond, said Harvey served 32 years in the Army and likely qualifies to have his case moved to Veterans Court, which deals with mental health issues resulting from military service. Harvey has no felony record, and could surrender all his firearms if released, Jarrett said.

Prosecutor Nicholas Hud asked Judge Julius Hunter to order Harvey held without bond, arguing that if someone turning in front of him so triggered Harvey that he emptied a pistol in a public parking lot, then he remained a danger to others, should a similar confrontation occur. Hunter agreed.

Jarrett told the newspaper later that Harvey retired in 2018 with “severe PTSD” as a consequence of serving in Desert Storm and other combat operations. His treatment for the condition was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He’s seen some things as a vet, as many have,” Jarrett said.

Standing outside court with her daughter, Hearlson, 39, did not think Harvey’s PTSD excused his conduct.

I think he doesn’t need to be on the road, and he definitely don’t need to own a gun,” she said.

She said Harvey made eye contact with her daughter as his bullets hit their car, each shot advancing toward her, a memory she’s unlikely to forget.

My child might have PTSD now from what he done to her,” she said.

As Jonn used to argue, there are many people with PTSD who don’t go around demonstrating violence. Chances are that these are issues that predate the PTSD. The Military Times has more information here.

Was it PTSD or THE PTSD….we need to make that distinction.

Mick

The PTS of the D.

Hack Stone

Just wish that Big Pharmaceutical would hurry and develop that PTSD vaccine.

Slow Joe

Right after the covid19 vaccine comes out. And probably as effective.

Roh-Dog

Hopefully The Rest of the Story for Mister Harvey ends with a jail term and a real case of The PTS with a side of diapers.

Comm Center Rat

Kudos to Joe Harvey for keeping his PTSD under control and completing a 32 year Army career in 2018. Joe might be finding it difficult as a retiree because nobody obeys him anymore without his uniform on. Going from Hero to Zero virtually overnight is never easy. Joe probably still hasn’t learned the meaning of DILLIGAF.

Thumbs down to the Mama Griz for not being armed during the road rage incident and getting a few rounds off in Joe’s general vicinity. Why would anyone living in Columbus, GA not be armed at all times? God, Guns, and ‘Murica forever!!

Roh-Dog

“Why would anyone living in Columbus, GA not be armed at all times?”
THIS!
You have to cross the bad areas to get to the less-bad areas.
Hell, the softball league I was part of one dude pulled out a loaded AK out of the trunk and got peer pressured into letting one go. That didn’t bother me as much as the fact I was the one that was beating feet to unass the scene.

NHSparky

Just the picture gives me a pretty good idea that this dickweed has some serious anger management issues, PTSD related or not.

More likely, dude is just an asshole.

The Other Whitey

I’ll put money on “asshole.”

Green Thumb

Yeah.

And he pulled his shit on a 39 year old woman and her teenager. I get they were talking shit, but give me a break.

If this dude did 32 years, the he knows better.

Fuck him.

5th/77th FA

There has been many an occasion that I really wanted to have either a set of quad fiftys or a 40 mike mike bofer gun mounted on the roof cab of my F150. Possibly some Hell Fires or TOWs on the bed rails. You know, just in case another driver does something that pisses me off.

Never considered having the desire to terrorize a Ms Thang and her child, no matter the stupidity of their driving habits.

D^ckhead! Lock his azz up!

Docduracoat

That woman would have been justified in shooting back.
Too bad she did not shoot him

Slow Joe

Wow man.

Pulling a gun on a fellow American.

And a woman with the young daughter.

Drop the hammer on this dude.

USAFRetired

I don’t know this guys back story, but PTSD sounds too convenient of a defense for behaving like a porkchop.

The commedian Gallagher had a bit about arming drivers with a dart gun that shot flags that read STUPID at cars. Cops could use those to pull people over and give them tickets.

Haa Columbus really gotten that bad?

USAFRetired

After reading the whole Military Times article my doubts are even more. He shot his own vehicle five times before he shot the other person’s vehicle four times.

Was this fellow a Combat Arms type? Why would you brandish an unloaded weapon at someone?

Besides Col Cooper’s four rules, there is a corrolary don’t pull a weapon except to use it and an unloaded weapon is just an expensive rock.
