LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — A 37-year-old Kansas City-area man was charged Friday with attempted first-degree murder and eight other felonies after authorities say he randomly fired into traffic on a bridge that connects Kansas and Missouri.
The charges filed in Leavenworth County, Kansas, District Court against Jason Randell Westrem, of Houston City, Missouri, include four counts of firing into an occupied vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated endangerment of a child. Two children were passengers in a vehicle that came under fire Wednesday on the Centennial Bridge near Fort Leavenworth.
A soldier stationed at the Army post hit the shooter with his car to stop the firing. One person, also a soldier, was wounded, and the suspect was injured and remains hospitalized, according to Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.
Thompson declined to comment about the details of the case ahead of court hearings. It was not immediately clear whether Westrem has an attorney.
Leavenworth police officers initially believed they were responding to a road rage incident on the bridge. Instead, they discovered that a man had been using multiple weapons to fire randomly at vehicles.
The soldier who ran over the gunman had been waiting in traffic when he saw what was happening.
Bravo Zulu once again, Sergeant. The shooter was charged from his hospital bed. Read the entire article here: Army Times
Thanks, Skippy.

Maybe the SOB will catch a nice sepsis or other type of fatal bug while he is in the hospital. Or suffer from a severely bruised taint while awaiting trial. Sometimes I don’t want to have to wait to read someone’s obit to find satisfaction with their passing. Not sure on MO law, but 9 felonies worth of prison time equals a nice chunk of change from the taxpayers. Enjoy your new found friends mofo. You’re gonna get screwed as hard and often as the screwing you’re giving the taxpayers that will have to support your sorry azz for the next 40 or 50 years.
There darn well better be a Soldier’s Medal in the works.
Those orders, if there is any justice, will designate this as an “Impact Award”.
E-4 mafia, if the chain of command drops the ball, type it yourself and submit with the stack.
-must- happen.
Agreed on the “Impact” Soldiers Medal, or at the bare minimum, the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver W (wheeled vehicle) qualification bar, denoting the “attainment of a high degree of skill in operating and maintenance of motor vehicles”. /s
( Facepalm ) I totally missed that! As a former Awards Clerk, I tip my hat!
Expert badge with “POV” bar is another option.
Sadly, what will probably happen is some dickhead will order him to a three day remedial “defensive driving” school.
Where he will be the Hero.
No CQ for 30 days?
Buffer duty suspended for 90 days.
NCO. He gets to opt out of sensitivity training.
The only thing that will stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a Pontiac.
Not “the only thing” but one of the possibles. We’ll take it.
How come the soldier didn’t check out his back up lights going in reverse and then go forward to make sure the stick was going into drive like it is supposed to while the perp was still under the car and maybe turn the steering wheel to see if it would go over the guys head without ruining the springs????
Good.
I was glad for the follow-up. Thought it was another in the recent spate of Jihad Johnny’s spreading their Religion of Peace at military installations. Naw, just a garden variety melt down who was fortunately stopped quickly. Hope the soldier he injured heals up quickly.
I’m wondering how the good Soldier’s insurance company is gonna react.
If they f**k him, I hope their name gets spread far and wide, and every uniformed service person and veteran drops them.
HOOOAH
JOB WELL DONE !!!!!!!
Leave it to a army member to run someone over in style
It must be difficult to leap into action with giant set of brass balls, but I’m glad to see one of our GI’s doing something for the great good…needs to LOTS more of that going around.
