Detroit Nursing Home Abuse

Nursing Home Attack

Poetrooper sent us the article about an unconscionable attack on a 75 year old patient in a Detroit nursing home a couple of days ago. It’s taken this long for me to calm down enough to post the story; if nothing else I’ve learned posting in anger is never a good idea.

Seems a 20 year old patient with mental issues was sharing the victims room, videoed his 90 second attack, and posted that act to the internet. Horrified viewers forwarded that to the local police, who made an arrest.

The home’s administrators and staff were made aware of the assault when the police arrived. Let that sink in for a minute and perhaps y’all can understand my anger.

Now the lad’s family is speaking up.

Father of patient who beat elderly man at Detroit nursing home says son shouldn’t have been there, suffers from mental issues

By Peter Aitken

The father of a man captured on video beating up a Detroit nursing home resident has claimed that his son has a history of mental illness, and that he shouldn’t have been in the facility following a coronavirus diagnosis.

The shocking video surfaced on Thursday, showing the unnamed 20-year-old resident beating up another patient at the Westwood Nursing Center. The video went viral, even attracting the attention of President Trump, who reacted on Twitter with disbelief.

Now, the younger man’s father has said that his son was never meant to be in the facility in the first place. Neither the son nor the father have been identified in any reporting, partially because no charges have yet been filed.

He claimed that his son was put in the facility after a 911 call, but he was meant to be moved after a COVID-19 diagnosis.

“It should’ve never happened because he should’ve never been put in that environment,” the father told FOX 2 Detroit. “I just don’t want people to think that he’s this vicious individual. He’s got mental issues.”

The father further revealed that his son has a pending case in Washtena County, where he is accused of assaulting a staff member at another home. He claims his son has long suffered from behavioral issues and was not properly monitored at Westwood.

“Had I known he was there I would’ve never have consented to it,” the father said.

Police and care home faculty had originally been unaware of the incident. After the video went viral, users on social media reached out to police to report it.

The victim was transported to a presumably more professional health care facility with non-life-threatening injuries, and this is a very good place for me to say,

The only mental deficiency this POS has from what I can see is that he’s a scum bag with anger issues. I appreciate that the father is not denying that what his son did was wrong and even mentions that his son had previously attacked a staff member at a another nursing home rather than pulling the “he wouldn’t hurt anybody” card. But I’m not completely sold on the mental deficiency statement (not yet at least, I’ll wait until more comes out).

I used to volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center that largely focused on injured raptors. Whenever possible, the bird would be treated and released back into the wild – when its injuries were too severe to survive on its own, however, an enclosure would be built for the animal and it would be kept fed and comfortable – and used for fundraising purposes whenever possible.

Anyway, they housed an Andean condor that they had received from another program – the bird had been born with poor eyesight and, rather than waste resources on a bird that couldn’t survive on its own, as well as preventing the trait from further tainting the gene pool, his foster mother quickly tried to euthanize him (staff was able to rescue him).

Mental illness – whether a legitimate diagnosis or a catch-all for an inability/unwillingness to adapt to social conventions, is a touchy and difficult topic. I’m not insensitive and I don’t mean this as glibly as it might sound, but when I see reports such as the assault in that nursing home, I wonder if that foster mother condor didn’t have the right idea.

IMHO there is NO excuse whatsoever for that! If he truly is mentally ill, then those responsible for putting him there need to be held accountable.

Chuckles needs to get a visit from a fellow boxer…a VERY proficient fellow boxer.

I’d vote for a fair trial, followed by a first-rate hanging. Slow one.

Yep, when I FIRST saw this the other day my blood pressure went thru the roof too. Absolutely no excuse for it to have happened. An extra dose of Lisinopril and laying back for awhile helped. Seeing it again at 0God45 hrs started another uptick so I walked away again. Didn’t re-read before commenting.

POS needs a little of his own medicine and THEN needs to be euthanized. May even want to neuter the “baby daddy” to prevent more like him. Don’t know. I do know that a very good friend of mine owns and operates nursing facilities that are top notch and he has said that many a time he is approached to admit someone that has long running “behavioral issues”. He won’t take them. One of his places does specialize in Alzheimer/Dementia cases and the staff to patient ratio is almost equal. He also has monitored camera systems thru out the facility.

Lawsuits naming the kid, the owner, the facility, city, county, state, from the patient’s AND the kid’s father in 5.4.3.2..! And the insurance companies for all involved will pay off and the only winners will be the lawers.

The father blames other variables, but not the decision that his son made. He shouldn’t have been there, he should’ve been moved, he has mental issues, etc.

There are a lot of people with mental illness who are not out and about assaulting people. Many of them know what is right and what is wrong. People’s anger over this is understandable, as we have loved ones who are senior citizens. That man is a family member’s loved one… They couldn’t be there to make a difference, or to serve as a deterrence.

You should read the commentary in the linked article. They call out the double standards of both the media and certain people who usually come out and scream racism when a thug gets killed in the act of being a thug.

Of course, but the powers that be know how to frame an issue to best serve their interests. If the races were reversed the left and the media (but I repeat myself) would push the story relentlessly making sure to emphasize race and ensuing that the video got maximum exposure while the usual suspects in Congress would be screaming bloody murder and calling for all kinds of new legislation. As it stands those same forces will do all they can to let the story die and to downplay the racial aspect. Anyone in Congress or in a position of authority who points out the racial aspect of this crime will themselves be accused of racism and the basest of motives for pointing out any racial aspect of this story.

Innocent people always get hurt when those with mental issues are housed somewhere other than in facilities just for them. Always.

Sure there were abuses in mental health facilities decades ago. And they should have been fixed. Better diagnostic tools should have been developed. But instead, all those patients were dumped on the streets. Today patents are given a handful of pills and released instead of being properly treated.

Is anyone really convinced that the number of institutionalized people abused there is/was greater than the risks created to the patients themselves and those they injure/kill while roaming “free?”

And no, putting the mentally ill among people whose only crime is aging is not justifiable. Ever.

The Individual in the Video has been arrested.

His name is Jaydon Hayden:

If you go to the above site, there is ANOTHER Video of him beating an elderly woman, possibly in the same Nursing home. He has been bragging on his YouTube channel about beating folks in Nursing homes while they were asleep.

Here is one of his YouTube videos where he expressed his thoughts about “black slaves”. Kinda sad listening to him talk:

Gonna be interesting to see if the Liberal news media or The View addresses this, i.e. a young mentally disturbed Black Man beating on elderly White Folks or gives the story additional coverage.

So I was right to not give this piece of garbage the benefit of the doubt. He’s just a regular old thug. Not only can he not keep his hands to himself, he also likes to help himself to stuff that doesn’t belong to him, particularly if it’s valuable.

Good to see you back, ninja.

Was AFK, had to go make me some scrambled eggs with cheese grits and toast for some brunch. Thought a nap was calling my name, but just heard about a rediscovered forgotten cemetery gonna go check out.

Yeah, he sure does have mental issues, like no one has beaten the crap out of him. Time for him to find out what it’s like to be on the receiving end.

I wish I had someone that loved me as unconditionally as that dipshit’s father loves him. If I did anything like that both my parents would rightfully disown me and publicly acknowledge I’m a monster. This kid’s a monster. Anyone who will do that sort of thing is only going to escalate. He needs to be locked up and the key thrown away.

Inbred Redneck

This, Mason, is as realistic a statement on the situation as there’s been. Used to be that most families felt as yours does. I had an older half-brother who did close to 30 in USAF. Of the 4 younger sons I’m the only guy who received the Greetings from POTUS letter, and if I’d even thought about refusin’ to go, or headin’ for Canada there wouldn’t’ve been enough pieces of me left to take to the induction center. Dad did 7 years in the Corps and 5 in the Army. None of us had to join but we sure weren’t gonna not go if called.
