Memorial Day Cinematic Tribute

| May 25, 2020

Showed videos like this last year, thought I’d show similar videos again this year. Although they’re pulled from a video game, they put a face to what people today would read in the history books.

The Mighty Eighth:

From a combination of video game scenes and movies:

The last scene from “Battleground” does it for me-third platoon marches off for some well deserved rest, but they want to show the new guys that they are still proud fighting men (even if they are a little dinged up):

Absolutely agree.
My personal favorite ending line of all: Lee Marvin in “The Professionals”

Powerful stuff. War may be hell, but actual combat is a real muther effer.

I’m sure that a goodly number here have visited the Mighty Eighth Museum near Pooler Georgia and the Infantry Museum at the Benning School for Wayward Children. Been awhile since I’ve been to either, but IMO, they are two of the best facilities for telling the story of the cost of freedom.

Thanks thebesig.

Been to the Infantry Museum at Benning when my youngest graduated from the School for Wayward Boys. Visited the Museum of the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB and the Army Aviation Museum at Ft. Rucker. Visited Gettysburg.

On a personal note, I have a bit of family history at the Air Force Museum. My father was a structural mechanic and my uncle was a boom operator on the Ohio Air National Guard KC-97 on display there.

The music really enhanced those videos.

Thank You for sharing, thebesig.

“Two Steps From Hell” the greatest composers since Beethoven himself !!!
Look them up on YouTube, tons of great music !!!
I listen to them every day.
Nothing like some great Dragon Slaying Music to pick you up in the morning !!!
Great choices of music my good friend !!!
The drug addled mayir of Austin has decided that we didn’t need to have any Memorial Day Services at the Texas State Cemetery and blocked off the roads leading to the place so we will have to park a long distance away !!!

Thunderstixx

Another good one from TSFH !!!
“Impossible”

Thunderstixx

OK, Thunderstixx, chill a minute, a quick Google Foo on the youse guys tube showed several 2 steps from hell impossibles. I pick this version to pay Honors to our squidley swabbie Compatriots in Dress Whites, that whole bring ‘er alongside and “away boarders” crowd…plus the very well constructed CGI Ms Thang that appeared to be the heroine. Enjoy!

Messkit

One of my favorites. Especially for today.

Minor factoid: Elmer Bernstein’s music for “The Magnificent Seven” included a young pianist… John Williams. That one.
