A group of eight gay servicemembers sued the federal government Thursday for military and veterans benefits for their same-sex spouses, arguing that ignoring their marriages amounts to discrimination.
The move comes a little more than a month after the end of the military’s controversial “don’t ask, don’t tell” law, which for 18 years prohibited gay troops from publicly acknowledging their sexual orientation.
I guess there no potential for abuse of the system if they get their way, right?
“This case is about one thing … justice for gay and lesbian servicemembers and their families,” said Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense

In most of the “pride” parades it is as in your face as possible. Forgetting that “Tolerance” doesn’t mean acceptance, it means you put up with something. While it’s still legal in most states to fire someone JUST for being gay, you cannot say we’re arguing for “special” rights.

There are some fears of homosexuals, some not rational, some totally legitimate. The STD rate, for starters, is a very legit reason some aren’t all that fond of the gay community. Then we get into the marriage issue. Now, this may come as a huge shock to you, but marriage was a RELIGIOUS institution long before it was a LEGAL one. Even in hetero marriages, spousal privilege varies widely from state to state. There are those who feel it is an affront to their religious and moral beliefs, that recognizing same-sex marriage, as opposed to civil unions or domestic partnerships, is in fact an attack on their mores, and in some cases, they’d be right.
Such is a brief statement, so now back to you, fuckwad.

actually they did get their rights by being compotent at their jobs. See: 54th Mass, 9th, 10th Cav, 24th Infantry Regiment, Tuskegee Airmen. They got their rights, and changed attitudes by being the best at their job. At Pelileui a black Marine Ammo company preformed many acts of heroism to help out fellow marines. It did not matter what the color of their skin they were Marines.
There is always this *erroneous* belief that rights come from the top down. That laws will make reality. But it never works like that. Respect is not, and CAN NOT be given. It is earned. who would you respect more a Black soldier, or a Soldier that happens to be black. The differences can be subtle but very distinct.
