Members of the Texas National Guard have arrived in Illinois, according to sources familiar with their whereabouts and video taken of them at an Army Reserve training facility in a Chicago suburb.
The Texas National Guard boarded a military plane on Monday afternoon in Texas, as state and city leaders in Illinois were holding a news conference asking them to stay away from Chicago.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday shared a photo on social media showing what he called the state’s “elite” National Guard boarding a plane, but he did not say where they were headed.
“Illinois will not let the Trump administration continue on their authoritarian march without resisting,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said. “We will use every lever at our disposal to stop this power grab because military troops should not be used against American communities.”
Texas National Guard members were video-recorded by ABC Chicago Station WLS on Tuesday at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Elwood, Illinois, about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.

I lived and worked in Chicago (not the suburbs, actual 312 area code Chicago) for over a decade, and still go there often for work. What you are describing is absolute lunacy. Perhaps there are fewer reported minor crimes, because police stopped enforcing minor laws. If the prosecutor refuses to prosecute, why both arresting people? When I work at the hospital, I almost always see a news crew documenting another shooting.

I was stationed in Illinois 6 years on recruiting duty. First 3 in Aurora, which is a city an hour drive west of Shitcago. My last 3 years I was a Career Counselor at the AFEES/MEPS in downtown 2 blocks from the main police hq. Lots of broken glass from vehicle smash and grabs. My apartment got broken into and when the cop came he spotted an Army Times so he sat down to read it. I spotted a guy outside across the street with my camera bag, told the cop, and he didn’t bother getting up to look. He did ask if he take the Army Times and he left without bothering to look out the window at the guy with my camera bag.

Because the military’s purpose is to kill people and break things. Troops need an enemy. In Iraq or Afghanistan, there was always an enemy to fight. If we put them on mission in US cities, without a clear enemy, they will find one.

They are well suited for not only foreign deployments, but domestic ones as well. They are not purely warfighters.
I can see where you are coming from. I am not sure the common(ish) culture carries as much weight as it used to. Think about how tribal we as a nation have become. Conservatives vs liberals. Red states vs Blue states. Right wing/left wing. West Coast, East Coast, ” fly over country. ” Even being in the military creates a sub culture of its own. At the most basic level, most humans can have their thought process boiled down to an ” us vs them” view of the world. Troops are being placed because of a perceived threat. I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that these troops will be looking around for the “them” and only see “us”.
