Rochester police: Suspected home intruder killed in shooting on Emerson Street
Rochester, N.Y. — Police have identified the man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning on the city’s northwest side.
Zhymar Thacker, 22, was found dead inside a home on Emerson Street around 5:25 a.m.
BACKGROUND: RPD investigating homicide on Emerson Street after early morning shooting
Investigators determined Thacker and others had broken into the home, which was occupied by two adults and five children — a 13-year-old, two 6-year-olds, a 3-year-old and a 7-month-old. The family was sleeping in the same second-floor room, as they had just moved into the home the day prior.
As an adult male resident heard the suspects breaking in, he went into another second-floor room and retrieved a handgun.
As Thacker walked up the stairs, a shootout between him and that resident ensued, during which Thacker was shot dead, according to police.
The resident was shot once during the exchange. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
Police said the deadly shooting of Thacker appears to have been justified, and no charges related to his death are expected.

The new neighbors may have already improved the neighborhood by removing a major pest. Good on the dad for protecting his brood……errr……family.
What a way to say “Welcome to the Neighborhood!”
Word! Actually two (2) neighborhoods that the air (and gene pool) is a little cleaner. A slight tactical error on the part of the NY Citizen, having to go to another room to fetch a firearm…but with a mob of young’uns and just moving in it’s kinda understanding. Had a Lady Friend visiting @ Fire Base Magnolia and she asked “Do you have a firearm in EVERY room of this house?” Answered “No Ma’am, there’s not one in that upstairs bath, but I can put one there if it will make you feel safer.”
Told y’all that our Beloved AW1Ed was gonna get fanatical about fugly gunz this week…and here we are. Guess he’s getting ready for how fugly it’s gonna get come Saturday when (GO) Army makes a fugly mess of (BEAT) Navy’s defense.
