Jimmy Nixon; needless embellishment

| December 29, 2017

Someone sent us their work on this fellow, Jimmy Nixon, an investigator at Attorney Service of Louisiana, who claims that he was wounded five times in Vietnam after he was commissioned to 2d Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He also claimed that he was sent to Vietnam and he was stationed there between 1966-1969.

Well, he was in the Marine Corps. He enlisted in May 1968, he was sent to Vietnam in November 1968 and it looks like he was wounded in December and evacuated to a Naval Hospital in Annapolis, Maryland in January 1969. He awaited orders to be reassigned from January to March and he became a guard at Quantico in April. Then he was discharged in October, 1969 as a Private.

Since he was awarded a single Purple Heart, he should have been awarded a Combat Action Ribbon – he can probably get that added to his records. But he wasn’t a lieutenant, he wasn’t in Vietnam in 1966 & 1967, he doesn’t have five Purple Hearts and I don’t see a reason that he should think that he does, since he was in Vietnam for just an eventful month and a half.

Only a Private would embellish as an LT.

HMC Ret

He has credibility with the one Purple Heart. I don’t get these guys. Shoveling poo on an otherwise good record makes me think something isn’t clicking in the upstairs department. And what’s up with the officer thing? If he’s an investigator, he must know how easily records can be obtained and BS can be exposed. I just don’t get it.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Couldn’t be proud enough just to tell people that he served… had to go BALLS DEEP with his lies and bullshit.

Five Purple Hearts? Is he trying to give that bullshit artist and disgrace to the Hospital Corps Wallace “Grey” Rather a run for his money?

AW1Ed

Served when many wouldn’t, WIA and awarded the Purple Hart is more then most can claim. Too bad he shit all over this.

Mick

There’s no need for any of this stupidity.

Combat wounded while serving as a rifleman in B/1/3 in 3rd MARDIV.

That’s more than good enough.

Fred Kreller

Exactly. Couldn’t have said it better myself. These clowns have serious mental issues.

IDC SARC

Hellz yeah…I’m just proud enough to say I served 1st, 2d, and 3d MARDIV. Anything else is cake.

Semper Fi!

AF VET

I started laughing when I got to METALS. You go Jimmy!!

26Limabeans

Why the competition to see who can claim the most Purple Heart medals? One is more than anybody would want. It’s not like you did some incredibe feat. There are other medals for that. Nobody wants to be wounded.
Except maybe John F. Kerry.

sj

My (late) DSC holder bud was proud he never got one. Said it indicated that you zigged when you should have zagged.

Some Guy

With all due respect to your friend, but that is a very douchey statement that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.
Didn’t want your leg blown off by that IED? Guess you should have zagged. Didn’t want to get shot storming Normandy beaches? Shoulda zagged. Took a mortar blast while defending a frozen mountain pass? Shoulda zagged.
More often than not we have little to no control over the circumstances that lead to wounds in battle and implying that one does, disrespects the sacrifices made by those who have earned a PH in service to our nation.

I was hearing the “PH = I forgot to duck” bit from about week one of OSUT.

It is a pretty common thing.

Grunt

Bro, I think you’re in the wrong forum to be bashing people for “disrespecting the sacrifices” of folks in uniform.

Sounds like the same dark humor that I too have heard since about my first week at the Benning School for Wayward Boys.

Your local CVS should have donut seats and IcyHot™ on hand for that butthurt you have going on.

😀

Graybeard

“dark humor” – is there any other kind?

Seriously, my father was proud that he never got a PH. He has his CIB, but best of all he had an honorable discharge and a ticket home.

rgr769

As someone who came close to being entitled to the PH on two occasions on my tour in the RVN, I can say that for most PH holders it was being in the wrong place at the wrong point in time. Most servicemen with PH’s didn’t get while charging an enemy machine gun position.

rgr769

..them…

Some Guy

I guess I misread the dark humor in that statement. Sorry, it happens sometimes. Nevertheless, that statement did hit a sore spot for me, as I do have some friends and relatives who earned the PH. Those examples weren’t just randomly pulled from my ass.
Also, FWIW, I started my career at Benning as well.

sj

You also may have missed that I said my buddy, the one who said that, dark humor, was the holder of the Distinguished Service Cross and a bad ass Infantryman.

Some Guy

Nope, I did not. Read my response again.

SFC D

Lighten up, Francis.

Black Velvet Flag

I received two PH’s on my third deployment to Iraq. I should have zagged, I guess.

IDC SARC

(Jungle) Boot to the head.

Carry on.

mr. sharkman

Those old school Jungle Boots are The Heat.

Hope you’re having some happy holidays SARC, and nailing every gal within effective range. 😉

I’m not good at math and I’m confused. I was born in ’41 and graduated from high school in ’59 –when I was 18. He says he was born in ’47 and graduated in ’63 — when he was 16!

sj

And there’s more. Up there in the documents he says born and raised in Andrews SC and high school in California. His Facebook says “Went to Andrews High School (Andrews, Texas)”.

Up there it says he graduated from West Coast University. His Facebook says “Studied at University of Southern California”.

HT3 '83-'87

He gets a “million dollar wound” and then temps fate by saying he was hit 4 more times. It took a while, but karma finally caught up to him. What a fucking douche bag!

ChipNASA

WAT TO GO JIMMY GUMP NIXON…
Dumbass.

OWB

These guys must have issues the rest of us simply cannot understand. When they embellish perfectly good military records, it naturally makes us wonder just how honorable their original service really was. Clearly it was honorable enough then. Why pretend now?

26Limabeans

Maybe they are pretending to still be in.
Re-up for a new MOS, assignment, schools etc.

“Yeah I did six years in and twelve out.
Re-uped twice I did”

Must be something in the DSM that explains it. Any shrinks hang out here? Gotta be at least one.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

First off, he’s not from Florida. At his age, it could be senior moments. I sometimes have a problem remembering things. Last week, I forgot the Alamo.
“REMEMBER THE ALAMO” Not too bad with only 2 yokes for breakfast.

Club Manager

Thank you for giving me something to on an otherwise boring day. I will share his shame appropriately although I suspect others have already done so as well.

lmn0351

14 states a good conduct medal .can anyone explain this?

IDC SARC

a good conduct medal can be awarded in certain circumstances (like combat wounded) even though the time period was not fulfilled

11B-Mailclerk

If he had no bad paper, then the Good Conduct Medal would be essentially automatic.

Even if no one ever thought him worthy of a PFC stripe.

If the service releases you early, RIF or other convenience not related to bad behavior, you get credit for the full three year period. If you come back on active duty, the clock picks up where it left off.

So a low-speed but dutiful wounded man would get the GCM even if cut loose early.

3/17 Air Cav

I recieved the GCM with a total time served of one year, five months, and two days. I was drafted so my obligation was two years.

Seems the award of the GCM can be quite arbitrary.

11B-Mailclerk

Short tours fall under the above mentioned “assumption of continued good conduct” rule.

26Limabeans

“you get credit for the full three year period”

I enlisted for three. Got an early out
upon DEROS from Viet of the Nam with 2 years 9 months AD.
Where’s my gold watch?

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I got out after three years (kiddy cruise) at the time one had to do four years in the Navy to get a good Conduct Medal.

Christopher Dallas

Notice how Bowel Bergdoll has a GCM? That definitely needs to be stripped along with everything else.
Too bad that NAMBLA fondler doesn’t get time with Tiny, Thor and Bubba.

Charle Six

Eligibility requirements state, for the first award of the MCGCM only, that the medal may be presented to Marines who are separated from service as a result of physical disability from wounds incurred in combat with an opposing armed force, provided conduct requirements are met. I imagine he was discharged as a result of the wounds he received that resulted in his one legit Purple Heart and, as he otherwise met the requirements, he received his GCM upon discharge.

Cacti35

WTF is with these guys? I don’t have a Purple Heart, I was feet away from more than one person that did get a PH. I am thanking my lucky stars that I did not earn one. My buddies that survived with wounds have scars and health issues to this day. Fuck those embellishing lying shit-heads that have to make shit up!

Mark Lauer

I know a whole bunch of Vietnam Vets who would say; “jeez, I wish I’d only been there for a month and a half!! It would have been worth a Purple Heart!”

Graybeard

Jimmy Nixon called and said “I am not a crook.”

SFC D

Impeach Nixon.

Charles

I can’t help but notice that Jimmy Nixon’s autobiographic rendering recites that his first Purple Heart was awarded for a wound sustained in “June 1966.” That is not only prior to his assignment to Viet Nam on November 5 of 1968, it is even prior to his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps on May 16, 1968.

In fact, the first four awards of the Purple Heart he recites are prior to assignment to Viet Name and prior to his enlistment in the USMC.

Even the last Purple Heart, according to his autobiography, was for wounds sustained when: “In July 1969 at Hai Thong, Viet Nam he was shot five times.”

Well, in July 1969 he was back stateside, as a guard stationed at QUANTICO, VA. (Notice that he does not state that the award was given in July 1969, but he specifically states that he was shot [five time] “in July 1969”).

I don’t know if the USMC normally reported combat wounded Marines as “sick” in hospital (rather that wounded or injured) but I’m wondering if he was ever properly awarded a Purple Heart for combat wounds. The Purple Heart is not awarded for illness, even illness secondary to service in combat, unless the illness was directly caused by enemy action (such as poisoned food or water).

And often the source document for award of the Purple Heart, especially back in the Viet Nam era, was not the unit, but the hospital or aid station. It would not be unheard of for a seriously ill (but not wounded) Marine to be shown on unit records as “medically evacuated” to a hospital ship, and an entry made in his service records for a semi-automatic Purple Heart. Remember, no recommendation for award is needed for the award.

Maybe he was beaten up at least four times by bullies at the continuation high school he attended, while he repeated the 11th and 12th grade several times.

rgr769

While serving as a rifle company commander in the 4th ID in the RVN, I received a letter from an Army Hospital in the states demanding I approve a PH for soldier from my company who was medevac-ed to the states because of a gunshot wound to the testicles. Since the subject incident occurred before I joined the unit, I asked about what went down. I was informed by several soldiers who knew PFC Nut-shot that he was shot by a 4th Inf Division base camp bunker guard when the PFC and a cohort were attempting to sneak through the perimeter wire at night after they had been to an off-limits whorehouse in An Khe city. Needless to say I wrote back to the CPT doctor explaining why I would not be approving his PH award request.

Ex-PH2

Hmmm…. I thought nobody really wanted a Purple Heart.

rgr769

In the RVN, we used to call the PH the VC marksmanship medal. Those of us in a position to get one didn’t want one.

David

A friend who I am told has three calls it the “I forgot to duck” award. As an RTO, he also thinks he set a record for lost helmets; when the PRC knocked ’em off whilst hitting the dirt, he left them there.

rgr769

I told the three RTO’s that followed me around constantly when we were in the bush to stay away from me if the shooting started. I said; “If I want to use the radio, I’ll come to you.” The bad guys knew those radios with protruding antennas were the identifier for the company command group. In my brigade we had a company C.O. shot and killed while talking on the radio.

Just An Old Dog

The CAR was not approved until Feb 1969 ( although it was retroactive til’ Dec 1941).
Since this was after he left Vietnam and he was discharged within months the chances are his Admin didnt put it in.

FatCircles0311

Pretty sure CAR isn’t awarded simply for getting a Purple Heart either.

Just An Old Dog

Not sure how they broke it down then, but the criteria generally is that you need to have been under enemy fire.
I’ve seen some more stringent requirements, as well as some that were somewhat looser.
During Desert Storm The USMC awarded anyone who crossed over into Kuwait the CAR. The reasoning was that the Iraqis had mined it, so they were “under fire” by going through an area they were set.
There are also certain exceptions geared toward special operations units. If a SEAL unit goes into enemy territory and gathers intel while in danger of being discovered and fired on they would rate a CAR as well.

FatCircles0311

I find that hard to believe since it’s an individual award requiring a write up. Also my bad experience with shit head commands.

rgr769

Based upon the content of his “About Jim Nixon” pages, I think Jim sustained a serious brain injury in the Viet of the Nam.

Hard to keep track anymore of all the horse manure so many are shoveling……………proudly
